In this video, we're talking about something that doesn't get nearly enough attention in the KDP world. And honestly, it's one of the biggest reasons that many self-publishers either struggle or succeed. And this is the fact that some of the best-selling lowcontent book niches are not exciting, creative, or trendy, or even visually impressive at all. They're not going to get you YouTube views. They're not going to get you talked about in Facebook groups, and they're not going to go viral on Tik Tok. They're actually kind of boring, but they consistently sell month after month, year after year, predictably without hype, without trends, and without chasing the next big niche. And that's exactly what we're going to look at in this video. I'm going to share a list of boring, lowc content book niches that are still relevant today. They have realworld purpose-driven demand. They are beginner friendly to create, and they have the potential to build steady long-term royalties. And none of these niches are just fads or depend on trends. They work because people actually use them. So if you're somebody who wants to build a sustainable self-publishing business instead of chasing quick wins, this video is going to help you think very differently about niche selection. If you're new here, I'm Caroline and I'm a self-publisher who has been creating and selling books on Amazon for 7 years. And on this channel, I show you how to do the same. Now, before we jump into specific niches, I want to quickly explain why boring niches often outperform the creative ones because understanding the psychology behind the purchase is what makes this strategy so powerful. In a lot of low content publishing, people approach book creation from the perspective of what would look cool, what would be fun, and what would stand out visually. But customers buying in boring niches aren't shopping on emotions or aesthetics. They're buying a book because they need it to do a job. And when a purchase is purpose- driven, a few important things happen. They aren't browsing for entertainment. They're searching with intent. They aren't price sensitive. They value usefulness. And they don't see it as a nice to have. They see it as a tool. And that shifts the dynamics completely. Instead of competing on things like having the prettiest cover, the cutest design, or the most stylish interior, you're competing with clarity, with function, simplicity, and ease of use. Which means even as a beginner, you actually have a level playing field. So, as we go through each niche, keep this question in mind. What job is this book helping the customer do? Because that's what makes these niches work long term. So, let's get into the niches. Let's start with one that actually sounds pretty simple, but it's actually one of the most consistent performers in lowc content book publishing, and that is bold and easy coloring books, especially for adults and seniors. Now, I'm not talking about things like really detailed mandalas, complex patterns, or highly artistic illustration styles. I'm talking about thick black line art, large areas to color, simple, recognizable shapes in a way almost childlike but not accessible, calming imagery, and minimal visual clutter. These books are being purchased because they are relaxing, they're soothing, they're motor skillfriendly, and low stress to actually complete. Let me just show you something. These are a couple of pages from some of the Cocoa Yo coloring books. Pretty amazing, aren't they? Don't we all wish though that we could color like that? But really, most of us can't. And seeing coloring books like this can be quite intimidating for most of us who can't color like that. Now, a lot of customers fall into groups like seniors, people with maybe vision or motor impairment, stress relief users, or beginners who feel really intimidated by such detailed art. So, the key word here is accessibility. This niche is all about comfort and usability, not artistic brilliance. And let's take a look at some examples. Just having a quick look through the search results for Bold and Easy coloring book, you can already start to see what styles of images and what types of images are part of these coloring books. If we look at a few specific ones, I've got the Cocoa Yo Bold and Easy coloring book. And they're generally one image or a couple of really, really simple images per page. Lots of white space, thick black lines. Another one I've pulled up here is Hikaroo Cots. And it's going to be very similar. We're just going to see really simple, really big, bold images that have a lot of white space to color in. And another one by Jade Summer. You can see what I mean when I say they are almost childlike images, but they are actually aimed at adults. And when we go back to the search results, if you take a look at some of the bestseller ranks, the bestseller ranks usually show up down here. As usual, when I'm trying to film a video, the app decides not to work properly. But the Coco Wyo one that we looked at is currently sitting with a bestseller rank of number eight. Now, bestseller ranks are very important because they tell us whether a book is selling or not. This one here has a bestseller rank of 124. This one has a bestseller rank of 65. So, these are actually some of the most bestselling books across the whole of Amazon. These books are selling thousands and thousands of copies every single month. And we just use that number to determine whether a niche is popular, whether it's in demand, and whether customers are actually buying these types of books. So in this case, definitely lots of customers are buying these books. Now this niche works because people don't want complexity. They want something that feels achievable. Next, I am including log books, but as a single umbrella niche, which actually has endless micro niches within it. But majority of books that fall under the log books niche are very, very boring. I'm talking about books like vehicle log books, maintenance log books, pet care log books, and medical trackers to just name a few. But these are basically just very simple, practical recordkeeping books. And these books sell because a lot of people still prefer paper records that they can store somewhere that they can hand over if they need to and refer back to. And these books are very boring on the surface, which is actually exactly why they sell. They don't need to be stylish or trendy. They simply need to be useful. They need to provide a clear table layout. They need to give space for the customer to write. And they need to stay consistent from page to page. If we do a quick search just for log books on Amazon and have a quick look through, you're going to see a whole variety of different types of log books. We've got a food diary and symptom log book. We've got medical visit log books. We just have plain generic log books, a driving daily log book. There's pilot log books. There are log books around accounting and finances. Now, I have just pulled up a very plain generic log book. This log book doesn't have anything specific that it's logging, but it just has basically the same page repeated over and over, and it is this page here. So, the customer can use this log book for whatever they want. But this specific log book has a really great bestseller rank for being such a boring generic book. It's got a bestseller rank of 34,783. And just to give you an idea of what that means in terms of sales, I'm just going to pop the details into the Kindler book sales calculator. And so that book's going to be selling seven copies per day. Such a simple, boring book that people find really useful. Another log book that I've pulled up to have a look at is a blood pressure log book. And again, this is just going to be pages and pages of the same thing. This book is just going to have spaces for the person to write down the date, the time, their blood pressure reading, and any notes so that they can keep track. And this one has a bestseller rank of 17,85. So, with that bestseller rank, this book selling around 10 copies a day for a really simple, boring, but very, very practical, lowc content book. And another one that I pulled up to look at is just a daily food journal. So, it's got 90 days worth of pages for somebody to just record their daily food intake. And really simple, that page will just be repeated over and over throughout that book. This one's sitting with a bestseller rank of around 78,000. So, selling a couple of copies a day. And one more. These are really, really popular, too. Vehicle maintenance books. Usually kept for people for work purposes. This is just going to have a place for somebody to write down all the things that need to be done when maintaining their vehicle. Really, really simple books again, and this one's doing amazingly well. With a bestseller rank of 9,000. If you have a really simple, boring book like this with a bestseller rank of 9,000, you're going to be selling around 14 copies of that book every day. So, pretty impressive. And you can make these kinds of log books, any kind of log book pretty easily and quickly using something like Book Bolt. Book Bolt is one of the tools that I use to make these kind of boring lowcontent books. Book Bolt has a heap of templates just like the ones in these books. I do have a coupon code for a discount on Book Bolt, which is down in the description box below if you want to take advantage of that. This niche sits right in that boring but necessary category. Expense trackers and bill payment log books are used by all sorts of different customers like households managing their finances, students learning budgeting, people in debt recovery phases or basically just anybody who is wanting visibility over their spending. And although there are plenty of budgeting apps out there, a lot of people prefer writing their numbers down because writing makes spending feel real. Tell me if this is how you feel, too. But it's kind of like when you spend on your credit card, it kind of doesn't really feel like your money that you're spending. And it can be a lot easier to spend the credit cards money cuz it doesn't really feel like yours. And that psychology is sort of the same when you're trying to track what you're spending. If you're tracking it in an app, sometimes it doesn't really feel real until you actually write it down on a piece of paper. So that's why a lot of people prefer these kind of physical log books. It reinforces awareness. It creates accountability. It feels more intentional. And that's why these books continue to sell. So a couple that I pulled up here just to look at for an example is this expense tracker notebook. This is to just track your daily spending, your budgeting. Very simple book. It's only 105 pages, but it's going to be the same page over and over, which is this, where it has just a simple place for you to have a date, the description of what you've spent, and how much it is. This book does extremely well. It's got a bestseller rank of 8,400. If you had this really simple, boring expense tracker with the bestseller rank of 8,400, you're going to be selling around 15 copies every single day. And that book would have been very, very quick to make. Another one that I've just pulled up here is an income and expense log, a small business ledger book, or for personal use. Again, these are just really simple, same page over and over with places to write down what the expense is, how much it was, and when the expense took place. And another one I just want to share is an accounting ledger book. So, this is basically just going to have the date, description, the amount, exactly the same as all the others. These books are all very, very similar, and they're just very, very useful and functional. This one actually surprises a lot of people because it feels outdated, but address books still sell really well. And the reason is pretty simple. Not everybody wants their contacts stored digitally. Some people, especially seniors and uh perhaps maybe caregivers, prefer these physical records that they can actually flip through and update when they need to. And the purchase motivation here is purely practical. They want large print, clear alphabetical sections, straightforward layouts, and readable fonts. Now, that doesn't mean you can't get creative with your address book. In fact, it is one of those boring, lowc content books where you actually can get really creative if you want to, but it isn't entirely necessary because these books are bought with function in mind. Here's an example of one that is selling very well, an address book titled Who the Hell Are These People? This book has a bestseller rank just over 25,000. So selling really, really well. And unfortunately, due to it being a low content book, we can't see the inside of it, but we can obviously imagine what's going to be in there. Another one that I've pulled up to look at, address book. This one has a swear word on the cover, and it is one of the best sellers. Now, it won't be using Amazon ads because you can't have swear words on your cover when you're using Amazon ads. So, this is all going to be purely organic sales. And it is doing extremely well. A bestseller rank of 5,500 means that that address book is selling around 20 copies every single day. We can see the inside of this one. It's just got three sections per page to be able to enter someone's address and contact details. Super super simple. Another one I've got here to look at is an address book. And this one is specifically large print. So perhaps targeting seniors, people who do prefer their texts and their books a bit larger. Doing extremely well. It's got a bestseller rank of just under 19,000. So selling consistently, selling multiple copies every single month. So while digital tools have replaced a lot of traditional book categories, this one remains one of the exceptions because reliability matters more than convenience for many customers. And this is probably one of the purest examples of a boring book that still works. This niche exists because reading accountability is still a core part of primary education and many schools still use reading logs. Personally, my daughter has to have a new reading log book every year for school to record what books she's reading throughout the year. These books are bought by parents, by teachers, and homeschoolers. And the purpose is extremely simple. Track what the child reads, record how long they read, and sometimes include a short reflection or rating. That's it. Now, this is the reading log book my daughter's school uses. You can see there are sections for her to write the date, the title of the book, how she felt about the book in terms of a rating, and they're just really simple but very useful, practical, and sometimes necessary books if it is part of your school's book list. Now, in terms of on Amazon, we have a couple of examples. I've got my reading log book review journal for kids aged 6 to 12 with a really fun cover on it. The inside of this one is a little bit more creative. It does have a couple of different types of pages on it, but basically it's just got sections for the child to write down what book they read and what they thought about it, how they felt about it. This one currently has a bestseller rank of 155,000. The back to school period is not happening in the US, which is where this book's targeting. So, this book probably gets very popular in the middle of the year when all the US schools are going back after their summer holidays. And another one that I've looked at here is Reading Journal for Kids. And this one's just a really beautiful reading journal where children can track and log report and review the books that they're reading. It's just a really useful book. And this one currently has a bestseller rank of 21,300. So, doing really, really well in the Amazon bookstore. And what is so great about this specific niche is that it repeats each school year. So students fill books and then each year they need new ones. The format is predictable and parents like having one consistent tool. This niche perfectly aligns with repetition based learning which makes it perfect for low content book publishing. These books are commonly used for things like letter formation practice, number writing, namew writing, and early motor development skills. They sell very well and are popular lowcontent books because they support skill reinforcement, not teaching. They can be very boring to create, but they are extremely useful. The key strengths of this niche is that parents and teachers both purchase them. They get reused and repurchased. There are a whole range of different ages that you can target with these kinds of books. And as a child is growing, they're purchasing new books in higher levels as their skills improve. And so these kind of books really lend themselves to creating a full brand. And the value here is in the consistency of the layout. There are some very, very popular handwriting practice workbooks. First one that I want to show as an example is the all-in-one print handwriting workbook. And these books basically just have lines with letters or words on them for the child to trace over initially and then to practice themselves on these lines. So they can be as simple as this where it's just a single letter that the child's learning how to write or it can increase into words and then even into sentences depending on what age of child that you're targeting. Now this is one of the bestselling handwriting workbooks on Amazon. It currently has a bestseller rank of 1,700. So, one of the bestselling books across Amazon, selling almost 50 copies every single day. And if you had multiple books in a brand because you are targeting different ages of kids or different types of things that they're going to be learning with their writing, then you can build up a really substantial income. The next one I want to look at is small print handwriting workbook. There are also different types or styles of writing that you can teach. You can teach cursive like this or you can just teach this standard types of lettering. And they are all fairly standard. They usually follow the same kind of format where the child's learning the letters first and then move on to words and sentences. So this one has a bestseller rank of between 14,000 and 15,000 across the whole of Amazon. And this one here, the last example I'm showing you, you may have seen this before. It's one of the bestselling books across the whole of Amazon. It has been four years and it always will be, which is my first learn to write workbook. So, it's aimed at the really young kids, the preschool kids, toddlers who are really just having their first experience with using a pen or a pencil. So, they're learning very simple shapes and lines, not necessarily words yet. But this book has a bestseller rank of 100. It is always in the top 100 of all books across Amazon, which means it's selling hundreds of copies every single day. And this book, like I say, has been this popular for many years now. So, if the book is functional, it will always outperform books that are trying to be creative. This niche looks deceptively simple, but it is actually one of the workh horses of lowcontent book publishing. I'm talking about notebooks that aren't sold as just decorative or generic, because there are a ton of those out there, but they are sold as clearly labeled purpose notebooks. What do I mean by this? I'm talking about notebooks like therapy note journals, reflection notebooks, meeting note notebooks, prayer journals, or project note notebooks, for example. These books succeed because the title defines the purpose. The buyer or the customer isn't looking for a pretty notebook. They're searching for a notebook for a specific function. The boringness of these books is actually the advantage because they are actually meant to disappear into the background while the customer or the user does the real work which is thinking, reflecting, processing, and writing. Let me show you some examples of this. So, this is a perfect example. It's a notebook, but it is labeled as a session notes notebook. So, it's a notebook for a therapist to be able to write down a session that they're having with a patient and be able to write notes about that session. Now, you could also target these at the patients. So, maybe the person who's had the therapy session wants to sort of summarize and write down what was talked about in their session so they can kind of review that and think about it further. This particular purpose notebook has a bestseller rank of 70,100. So, it's a in demand kind of notebook. People are buying this every single month. Another one that I pulled up to look at is a meeting notebook. If you need to take notes through your meetings, it helps you keep your notes all in one place for your meetings. And so, it's just a great way for somebody to have a specific notebook for a specific thing. And another one, as an example, is a prayer journal. And these types of purpose-driven notebooks do really well. This one specifically has a bestseller rank of around 11,500. So, selling really, really well. and obviously just a really useful notebook. Remember, these books are boring, but they're purpose-driven notebooks. They're not the elaborate guided prompt style of journals. So, in this case, where they can fail is with overly decorative pages or with unnecessary prompts and just too much stylization. The more neutral they are, the more that they suit multiple types of customers and the better they perform. This is very closely related to the previous niche, but just slightly different. These are journals where the interior is just simply lined pages, but the cover and title make it clear what the book is intended for, just like the purpose-driven notebooks that we just looked at. But some examples of these types of journals are unprompted gratitude journals, dream journals, reflection journals, or therapy processing journals. So, you can have a daily gratitude journal where it is just lined pages for somebody to write down what they're grateful for, but it's not a generic notebook. It has a specific title to tell the person what they are using this notebook for, this journal for, and that's all they're using it for. So, this one has a bestseller rank of 10,600. So, very, very popular. Another example I've got here is a travel journal or a travel notebook. Again, this is just for somebody to be able to write down their travels, what they've done, but it is specifically for their travel. So, this is great for people who do like to sort of have different notebooks for different things so that they can just be a lot more organized. It has a bestseller rank of 21,600. The next example is a dream journal with a very funny title, which would probably make it very popular. People love books and titles with swear words in them. So, this is a notebook for somebody to write down their dream and to try to interpret what their dream means, but really just a place specifically for somebody to note down their dreams. This one's doing really well. has a bestseller rank of around 54,000, selling multiple copies every single month. And the difference between a generic notebook and a purpose journal is that a generic notebook says nothing, but a purpose journal tells the customer exactly what it is for and that just creates confidence at their buying decision. People like knowing this is the book that I use for this part of my life and then it makes the journal feel more intentional even though the inside is extremely simple. This is one of the most beginnerfriendly lowcontent book niches and when done properly, it remains very resilient. These books are definitely not purchased because of aesthetics. They're purchased because the paper format itself is very useful and very specific. Think of things like graph paper notebooks for maths, dot grid notebooks for basic bullet journaling, square grid notebooks for planning layouts, grid sketch notebooks for mapping or design concepts. People buying these books don't want graphics or decoration. The value isn't in the content, it's in the structure of the pages. And this niche works well because one interior can be used across different variations of books. It's easy to scale into multiple versions and customers repurchase as they use up each notebook. So, one example we're going to look at is a bullet dotted journal. Now, keep in mind bullet journal specifically that title is trademarked, so you can't call it that, but they otherwise get called a dot grid journal. And it's basically pages with dots on. People either use them to draw or even just write on sometimes. Bullet journals are generally very artistic and creative and people draw in them and so they like these dots. Another example is this graph paper notebook. So specifically for maths and science and it is basically just squares on a page, page after page after page of squares on a page. Very simple, very very boring, but very much needed and very useful. And this one has a bestseller rank of 46,600. So selling really well again being aimed at students at school. This book will do really well around the buying period for when school goes back in the US which is middle of the year. One last one to look at as an example. A little bit more creative having a pink cover but this is a math notebook and it's got half2 in squares in it. So bigger squares for different types of maths or different types of maths problems. Just really simple and really boring. This one has a bestseller rank of 111,000 and will no doubt have a spike of sales at the beginning of the new school year. And again, the thing to just really take note of here is that the boringness is its strength. The book is a tool and tools don't need to be clever. They just need to work. As I mentioned earlier with some of the other niches, Book Bolt also makes these kinds of books very easily and very quickly. You would think making these kind of books would be hard because you need to create squares that are all exactly the same, but Book Bolt has templates for all these kinds of books with dot grids and graph paper in them. So, they are actually very easy books to make when you have the right tools. And finally, the last boring niche that we are looking at today is structured sketchbooks. So, not blank sketchbooks because you can't actually publish blank books into Amazon KDP. You do have to have something on every page. They're not themed art journals, but just lightly structured sketchbooks that give the users a consistent space to work in. So, lightly structured might include something like a simple box layout or repeated sketch spaces or something like light guidelines. As I mentioned, you can't actually publish a book that has blank pages in them. So, you need to have something on the page. So, giving some light structure is also really beneficial for the user, even if it is just something very minimal that you put on each page. But these aren't the kind of books that are trying to teach art or get somebody to do a specific thing each day. They're simply just giving the artist a clean page with focused sections. Here is a quick example. We've got a blank comic book. So, not all art is just in a blank sketchbook. This is for artists who create comic books. And it's basically just giving them a structure for each page. It's just got different boxes what they can complete. They can add their comic images, illustrations, they can add their story to. Just really simple, really boring on the surface, but something that is really, really useful for comic book artists. Now, this comic book does have a bestseller rank of 2722. It's actually one of the bestselling books on Amazon. It does extremely well, and it's always one of the most popular books on Amazon. So, with that bestseller rank, it's selling over 30 copies every single day. Another one we've got here is an actual sketchbook, which is basically just a book for drawing, painting, or writing, sketching, whatever the person wants to use it for. Now, this one isn't really structured. It does have extremely minimal, which is basically this line. So, that was what they had to do to get this book published. They had to put something on the page. But what something else you could do is add a nice border, which just gives the person something to draw within. You could have a couple of squares on each page. And this book just being extremely minimal, very very minimal, this one has a bestseller rank of around 61,000. A book that people are buying consistently every single month. Now, this niche sells because it supports a habit rather than guiding creativity. And habit support tools tend to sell far more reliably than novelty books. So, across every niche that we have just gone through, there's a pattern. They all share four core characteristics. They solve a practical purpose-driven need. They are simple and repetitive by design. They're purchased with clear intent, not impulse. And they are often repurchased when full. And that combination is exactly why they're worth considering. They aren't glamorous books, and they're probably not going to impress other self-publishers, but they build the type of brand that supports long-term, reliable, predictable income instead of constantly chasing new trends. So, I guess the question becomes, how do you stand out in a niche where everything looks simple? And the answer is, you don't compete with creativity. You compete with clarity and usability. If somebody flips through your book and thinks, "This feels clean and easy to use," you've already won most of the battle. The advantage in boring niches is competence, not originality. Not every book that you publish needs to be exciting, creative, or visually impressive. Some of the most reliable income on KDP comes from books that honestly nobody ever talks about because they're not fun to show off. But they do help real people do real world things and that's what makes them valuable. So maybe instead of always asking what niche looks interesting, try asking what simple problem does this book help someone solve? And if a niche answers that question clearly, then it is almost always worth exploring. I hope that you found this helpful and that you found some niches that you are interested in exploring more.
