hello everybody it's Dr BOS and we are live here on Tuesday night welcome we have an excellent guest tonight where we are going to learn about the worst carnivore mistakes and I couldn't think of a better person to help me with this than an expert who is my guest tonight she was vegan for six years and did that in a time where she was trying to live out her best life at juliard but that didn't work out so well and then she went all the way to the Other Extreme which was Advanced carnivore in that transition we get to hear about some of the worst mistakes folks make as as a a carnivore and we also get to hear some of her journey and what she has done to make a fantastic YouTube Team uh and YouTube channel called the steak and butter gal welcome to the show tonight uh it is nice to see you Bella oops I pushed the wrong button here we're going right back to hold on still the wrong one where's the side by side one oh there we go it's the one that says side by side right on it well Bella welcome to the channel we are so excited to have you I am going to start with a hot question of tell me how you became vegan and then we're going to flip to as you did carnivore what were some of these worst mistakes we made absolutely firstly Dr BOS thank you so so much for having me on your show I am a super fan of your channel and your content so thank you for having me I'm honored thank you it's a great it's a great pleasure I can't wait to pitch all these vegans to you I love it y yeah you've made a brand around taking the vegans and fighting with them and I'm like I'm exhausted by them but I I really actually do love how much you've embraced what the carnivore diet has done and I do think you're an expert level five years in and really have either stumbled through the mistakes or had folks ask you saying I keep seeing these mistakes over and over again that are really worth it so take us back I mean you you're living you get this amazing uh acceptance to juliard you head into your uh your dream life at 18 years old and then and then what happens so I I got into juliard and I moved to New York City and this is from La all the way cross country to the other side east coast New York City thank you yes and um I just remember she took me to New York for the first time to visit the school and before juliard I was actually at the new school Manis so I got to warm up to the city at that school first and then I got into juliard for my Master's Degree and I just remember my mom was so worried about my safety she was like are you sure this is what you want the moment I landed in New York and step set foot on that that area I was like this is the place that I want to live because the speed of Life there was exactly what I was looking for I just I felt the inspiration I felt the drive the motivation the creativity and the passion in that City and that's what you know initially gave me so much motivation to also work hard and improve my piano skills so I went there to be a classical pianist and a concert pianist and I also you know took my violin on my back because I also really love violin so I really just studied both instruments very diligently my first four years uh for undergrad and then I got a little bit more clear like okay piano is actually what I truly want to pursue and so that's why when I got into juliard I focused on classical piano and Performing and all I can think of is how how advanced that fueling of your brain needed to be so like that I just looking at some of the spec scans for what where brain power is really I mean you look at a Pianist and how much that functional MRI of their brain is just on fire uh so you're you're using a lot of parts of your brain you might not know that but that uh I mean I'm I'm I'm interested I'm leaning in going oh I made All My Sons take piano lessons they may hate me but I I'm like nope I'm your mom and you're going to take piano lessons cuz I know what it's do with your brain but now you're trying to be I mean again isn't that what New York City's like designed to be or at least the version that is on you know my history of knowing New York was oh the energy the People The Innovation the the ideas it's it's like you know Stanford for you know startups or something but uh you've described it exactly how I expected it to be right and then what happened exactly and then so I got I go into juliard and my first year of my Master's Degree um I was well into my vegan Journey um so I initially started the vegan diet in high school oh I gained yes I gained the Freshman 15 um so I gained a lot of weight and as a performer my concert dresses were starting to fit Tighter and Tighter I got a little nervous I didn't want to stress up my mom when she's already so stressed raising four kids alone and I didn't want her to buy buy me new concert dresses when I could just simply do a quick search on the Internet and try to figure out how I can maybe lose those initial few pounds right and so I think that's yeah so that's how it all started I did a quick search how do I lose weight quickly and the first thing that popped up was VE veganism and specifically this girl called freely the banana girl have you heard her so my team updated me on her cuz I hadn't heard of her but that's crazy she at like 90% of her calories came from bananas bananas I'm like what the heck oh my goodness right and so this is 12 years ago when I first stumbled upon freely and so 12 years ago she was very big on YouTube and she was touting her raw till 4 diet what is raw till for you eat raw raw vegan and it's just bananas watermelon Peach whatever fruit that you want but eat it raw obviously vegetables sure eat it raw salad style 4 pm hits and you eat only cooked starches rice sweet potatoes potatoes um all of the steamed veggies and you get to eat as much as you want on that but specifically like that with the right timing and she said you can lose weight have my six-pack abs just like me if you eat like this as a 16-year-old okay that was enough for me to be like I'll try it and I did lose weight very quickly very quickly and so I was like oh my gosh this diet really works when really thinking back I stopped eating Taco Bell I stopped eating McDonald's right I was no longer eating the seed oil Chinese dishes my mom was making and I was suddenly being more health conscious about the food I was eating oh yeah so that is exactly why I lost the initial inflammation 6 years into my vegan diet yes I was very stubborn I just had to stick to it for 6 years I lost my period you know my skin issues just they were not getting better and yes my weight never truly stayed at the spot that I wanted it to stay it was yo-yo dieting and just binging and feeling hungry all the time I literally built an unhealthy relationship with food because of that diet wow it's real as a physician I've seen it so many times the impression that young women have and this desire to type into a you know a flat screen with lights that says give me the answers to the problems I have no adult is double-checking it's just who's ever talking head shows up on their search and boom they are they become the pi Piper they listen to exactly what they say without credentials or you know truth telling of well here's the few steps that are going to come next cuz that's that's the sad part and so you you had to get frustrated enough cuz again I hear the stubbornness and what Young driven woman who's trying to be successful isn't stubborn I've never met one they're all stubborn true so you get to this Tipping Point where you say I'm going that way I'm going to carnivore I'm going fully the other direction exactly and look I I approach everything in life with that type of Allin or not at all attitude and mindset and this this is something I'm very proud of like if I'm going to memorize 60 minutes worth of Music within s days I'll be the first person to make it happen if I say I'll do something I'll do it right so I have that type of A type personality I would say and so yes from a vegan to carnivore diet is absolutely extremely extreme going from one extreme to the other but a lot of people they love to come at me and say my gosh this girl just cannot eat everything in moderation what happened to moderation with her right that's a terrible word yeah exactly but I lit grew up eating it I I bet so hold on in your home of origin moderation was T taught and that's what you had oh absolutely in in Chinese cuisine you have the veggies you have your bowl of rice you have lots of meat you have your fresh fruit um and then you have your little bits of junk food yeah okay here you go we got here's the Here's the the little bitty seed that becomes a snowball that becomes a tumble weed yeah right that that's what that's exactly where moderation leads people was like uhoh you forgot to sort a little better than that right okay so um so tell me the some of the pain points where you said okay I'm going to look all the way over to because there were other options on the scale between vegan and and carnivore uh what made you push all the way to to what was attractive yes so what pushed me all the way over was actually a lot of very brave women talking about their vegan 2 carnivore Journeys and and so I did it again I went on the internet and I searched a very specific thing so after 6 years of the vegan diet my I took a blood panel test and that was my wakeup call my doctor sat me down and said I get that you really want to be vegan but I'm looking at your blood panel numbers you are extremely deficient in stuff like B12 vitamin D vitamin D was the lowest she's ever had uh in one of her patients and she said look you can either uh supplement very heavily if you insist on staying on a vegan diet or why not just try reintroducing some meat so that sparked a curiosity to go on the internet and search specifically vegan people eating meat for the first time that's what I searched yeah and I think I actually searched vegan women because I was most interested in seeing the ladies and for some reason that night a bunch of vegan women turned carnivore stories showed up so that's what I ended up falling into that rabbit hole so vegan women talking about carnivore diet I was like what is a carnivore diet they look amazing their healing Journeys are literally what I would love to heal um there was one Kumi Chris another one azra conlu they both are I think part Asian if not full Asian so I really was yes exactly so relatable for me and I saw their before and after photos and footage of them as a vegan and then now eating only meat and animal Foods they look like entirely different women before and after isn't it amazing yeah it's it's incredible it was very inspiring and then I ended up finding Kelly Hogan who I always like to shout out because she bravely talks about her story longest carnivore that I know and she talks about how it brought back her fertility it healed her disordered eating patterns so I was like this is also extremely relatable and hopeful for me to look forward to wow um so I did it again did another extreme move but I've been carnivore for six years now and it is truly the best decision I've ever made I can confidently say um I feel like I was able to uh marry my husband now my now husband I was able to um keep going with creating great helpful content for people about this lifestyle and it's because my mental health is healing my hormones are healed I feel so good well I mean I'll tell you one of one you say yes you can your doctor who God bless her or him for saying just Do the meat I mean I can feel the the the just desire to get them to make the right choice because I've tried to supplement uh vegans with vitam enough vitamin D to get them in the healthy level knowing their brain needs this at least at 50 if I'm going to repair their brain they got to have it at 50 and they're nowhere close they're so far south of that that it's uh it's painful to say oh Lord you have such a heavy and then to watch so I'm curious do you do you hap did you happen to track how long it took to get that vitamin D back to normal yeah so okay so when I first went carnivore I learned a lot from the initial zerocarb group so a lot of those ogs were part of this Facebook group called zeroing in on health I believe um and they always like to encourage don't Focus too much on the numbers initially we'd love for you to just enjoy this carnivore diet which is already very scary yeah and so focus on feeling better focus on just eating as much as you need and then maybe three plus months down the line you can test so that's what I did I waited a good couple months and by the time I tested again my vitamin D went from single digit I don't remember exactly the number somewhere between 6 to 9 that was my vitamin D and then it went up to um 30 something good job I mean that's that's a huge Spike for uh especially malnourishment when we see a vitamin D uh go rocket like that it's almost always that we we liberated their ability to move vitamin D meaning they had a huge insulin resistance we lowered the insulin resistance and now they to see an a malnourishment meaning it's not in her she doesn't have any and you can't you know fortify this without some of the other fat-based mechanis Ms to do that and then I mean I mean the part that I first think of is my clinic has got a lot of roots in brain that is brains that aren't working well and when you think of that brain power again first thing when I was reading your profile I'm like wow how did she do that on a vegan diet because that would have exhaust I mean that the amount of fuel needed to to stay concentrated to play an instrument at that level of proficiency you got to have you need Ketone you need fat girl I mean to do that so without it and then knowing now me just you added that a vitamin D in the single digits I mean that vitamin D goes into each one of those cells and it it it's a hormone so it is like a megaphone on top of that low fuel and um when I when I hear that so you you get to that three months and I think I read in your profile that you'd gained 25 lbs so at least tell me that story that can't be feel good right yes but thank you for explaining all that because I often wonder how I can better help vegans ready to stop being vegan because they come to me I get a lot coming to me dming me emailing me look I feel ashamed of eating meat again but I see your story I heard your videos or whatever and you're inspiring me to open up the mind a little bit and so like learning the how Labs can play an important role to understand whether or not someone is very malnourished or even a little bit is very helpful for um for just helping these types of people so thank you for that and I did want to speak a little bit on the um how taxing it is to to be creative and to be a Pianist yes performing oh I love this part yeah so I just remember year one of my Master's Degree at juliard I was vegan year two I was carnivore so I got the pleasure of kind of comparing yes yes yes um year at a time first year it was truly sheer willpower and I can say that my my willpower is pretty high like I I have a pretty good um ability to be committed to something consistent if I wanted to but I just remember how much I struggled I would spend up to 8 hours in the practice room every single day alone as a Pianist it's a very lonely career because you're practicing this craft by yourself you don't get a group of violinists flsts right you don't get to work with a Creative Group you are alone on that stage and you are working towards going alone on that stage all alone me this go yeah and um eight hours of just grueling practice and I started to question my own ability I was like what is going on because usually it takes me 3 to four hours to memorize a piece like this a Beethoven Sonata and now it is taking me multiple days of 68 hours of practice and that is when I started to get really concerned which snowballed into getting that blood test but it was absolutely my memory uh slips on stage so literally forgetting my music on stage very embarrassing super super scary stuff but it had it took going through that and having to wake up and look at reality because that's not normal as as a TW young you know early 20s oh my gosh I have Goosebump that Happ it means so it is magnifying so much in your history is because I see it I see it when they're we much later in their story and I I mean I often talk to my kids to my patients that you're it is when pain hits you at the right timing that you're willing to say let me question how I've filed things in life and to to say God gifted you with this desire and this this want to be great at music and creating things and then the world pushed back and said we're going to have you try to do it without any vitamin D without the nourishment that's required for this equation and that that suffering magnifies the longer it goes on so you're right the the proteins that your asites those brain cells that record memory inside your hippocampus they needed they needed nourishment in order to file those memories and without it it'll glitch and then in Peak Performance when when brains work their best adrenaline is high you're in performance mode even a a a poorly filed memory can still rise up to Performance unless they're Mal nished unless that dementia I mean it's terrible to say that word at the 20 years old and we we by by definition isn't that but that's the step one of what happens to dementia is they can't find it even with Wow significance yeah so wow so that you were able to look in the mirror and say all right um uh as these other carnivore wannabes or carnivore curious whatever that word is uh lean in and say um well so you you tumble weed into the carnivore talk about some of the mistakes you you made and some of the other on absolutely so year two carnivore Allin and I went from vegan to carnivore overnight and I would say the top mistake just every time I think back on my first month of going carnivore biggest mistake was probably drinking um melted fats so I always say like rendered melted hot fats please avoid yeah oh would you like to explain what happens when you do that I mean so running to the bathroom in the middle of class you know loose toools all of it and as Extreme as just sorry to be TMI guys but uh explosive diarrhea and I I dealt with that for a good couple months of just readjusting um my ability to digest so much fat and so drinking hot melted render fats definitely didn't help and I discovered yeah that's great if I ate yeah if I ate the fat cold and solid as opposed to melted and rendered it made a huge difference for me personally I wouldn't have this sudden sudden feeling like o uh I feel like something's not right or nausea so that that would be the biggest mistake so folks I'm going to say out to the to the um the viewers if you have questions cuz I instantly have some questions that wonder if you're asking you type them in we are collecting the questions that both Bella and I will answer as we get to the end of her story uh so type them in we're using them uh there's a lot of there's a lot to unpack there so so looking at also I'll explain a couple things just because I know there's going to be somebody who asks that so you put you put somebody who's got a vegan um menu for years and then you expose them to the volume of fats that especially you can consume in that liquid War fat The receptors that you are going to need the the bile you're going to need to be able to absorb it you don't make it you got to your body's got to turn on that production it's got to ramp up that production and it's zero so it's going to go out the back door it's gonna it's going to be this awful feeling because your body says I don't know what to do with that uh and um you cool it off uh you you have the cold stuff at least the movement through the system is a lot slower I so how many days do you think it took to go from the warm to the cool days or weeks um so once I discovered that tip I only ate cold okay good that's all I did yeah um so the the mistake it took me like a couple weeks to realize okay that's a big mistake let's just switch all the fats to cold solid hard fats um and then for my digestion to adjust I would say that took like 4 months at least yeah and that's when I started getting less and less and less loose stools first two months wow that was that was tough with with the stools yeah well so so many people would give up I mean I have folks that come into the ketogenic diet and they they're they're just not healthy enough to absorb those fats they do not have the endocrine Health meaning you've got a endocrine is measured not by the Baseline that you're at in fact the higher the Baseline of a hormone the almost the worst you're doing we expect those hormones to rise and fall based on a stimulus and a recovery phase so just eating meat is going to have this stimulus for several of these endocrine hormones to rise and fall eating fat is going to cause that hormone to rise and fall having not stimulated them in five or six years uh I don't care what age you are it's going to take time to get these pulsations and and you measure the health of that by how high can you see it Peak the first time you do it it's going to be like a little a little flea that bumps up a little bit uh and it will be over that repeated use of the stimulus which is the consumption that you get healthier but do you know how many people give up before they ever get to the other side of that they just don't ever have a chance so right uh add a girl for sticking to it my my kind of girl is stubborn to the end yes yep thank you very much but um that was the top mistake and then I do want to share like all of the mistakes that I feel like could be avoided because um so many so many people come into this life lifestyle in this carnivore Community online and there is a lot of information lots of content creators now lots of different opinions and approaches which is phenomenal which is great because it gives us all of these options and different approaches to play around with to experiment with because we we all are different we have different goals healing goals uh Journeys and then um fat loss goals as well so I always love to talk about uh the topic of eating enough oh yeah and I see this with a lot of new carnivores they come into this lifestyle and they're eating the meat they're sticking to beef lots of bacon eggs suddenly so much fat and then they feel so full off of a small amount of ribey right and they're like yeah this is enough and then they keep eating In Those portions whatever makes them feel full after a couple weeks their hair starts falling out their energy is dipping right they're not losing any weight they've been stalled for weeks and they frequently will come to my live streams or uh DM me on Instagram and they're like what is going on Bella I have not lost a single pound in 3 weeks for 3 weeks now so I literally every single time I just ask how many meals are you eating how how's your hair loss how's your energy and I always get these answers saying I'm eating one meal a day because that's what I've been doing on a ketogenic diet for years right and I feel great eating you know half a ribeye with two eggs for breakfast and that's it so I would love for you to talk about this DR Boss how how why is it so easy to undereat when you're eating only animal Foods you know it it is a great I think we're seeing the same people I call them patients you call them uh ders on Instagram uh but they they do they come in and especially if they've uh recently transitioned to carnivore from a ketogenic or they've been low carb and now they're carnivore and the motto in in the in the carnivore space is eat to satiety eat that you're looking for that satiety and yet they are blending too many voices and they saying well can I do it in an hour I'm like first of all you cannot absorb enough protein and fat in that one hour if you're unhealthy to really nourish that person um I mean we can work on your insulin getting better by taking that eating window and going down but the one hour of eating uh it's usually a Sprint for us to lower insulin but not a sustainable place we want people to stay for long periods of time and it's because uh they they are now in that one hour of eating and um they they reached for that before their endocrine system was ready for it let me explain that so even on a vegan diet um your your endocrine system was not able to uh percolate you know rise and fall these hormones in a healthy way your cause was malnourishment of these basic uh molecules mostly of fat molecules that you just weren't letting your body circulate and even though you had fat on your body they weren't they weren't in your circulation you didn't get to use them in your brain or your heart or your or your body uh when I look at most patients that come into my space they have uh they've been around the Sun several more times than you they're usually in their 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s and they have had a high hormone of insulin and again not insulin it's going up and down it's an insulin that's really high at a stable level and for the same reason that you were malnourished they are we call it a dual burden they have obesity with malnourishment meaning they don't have a lean problem they have a big tummy and they have fat put in every place that their body could find to do it because of what that insulin's been doing and so they the resources to spread that hormone around their body is not uh not possible and in that uh me the discipline behind patients is always what's it's so sad I mean they have got their um stomachs really small they really don't eat a lot of foods they think they come in and they expect me to expect that they're lying because so many Health Providers have said um you must be lying you must be lying how can you eat three bites of food and not uh and not gain any weight well the answer is hormones the hormones are not on your side they're not on your side at all and when when you watch what you're telling them which is okay you got to have consumption of fat and meat more times in a day uh what what you're allowing is you're getting every time they consume the fat their body will be turning that fat into uh into the hormones that they need they will mean vitamin D can come comes from that cholesterol shape estrogen testosterone uh even the the the norepinephrine in their brain is a derivative of having that fat in circulation and so you say well how can they get so full so quick uh and part of that is they have such a small GI system from years of trying to undereat trying to undereat and they are I don't I don't argue with them I'm like I'm sure you do only eat a few bites a day and now you are able to feel the sa satiated feeling not from the hormones which is the sustainable path that you can you know do from now till you die you have been shrinking the volume of your GI system and it's the stretch factor that's giving you that satiety signal that you've learned be really sensitive I'm trying to lose weight I'm gaining weight I got to do it less I got to do it less and it's like a race to the bottom uh for how quickly they will they will be tricked into saying I'm full I swear I'm full one of the one of the exercises that we do in um one of the classes that I do is we say we're going to teach you what the feeling of satiation feels like and love that yeah it's a stick of butter like eat butter and it is it that like they get to the part where you're like that butter doesn't stretch out their gut very much uh so they can eat a lot of it so they're not using their stretch factor and it might not even be the first stick of butter that they do this with because because they're you have to like Prime these hormones to be begin to work again so maybe it's the second stick of butter that they're just like I have this nausea I'm like that's satiety I know you're calling it nausea but that's what it feels like to feel full that's what it should feel like when you have had a meal that is nourishing to your body and it's like the severely insulin resistant patients that populate my channel and the the new carnivores that are getting full with the stretch factor and not getting full with that endocrine or that hormone surge so you keep keep telling them to eat butter I've seen your videos ah thank you Dr BOS wow to have your to have your approval is really so important because at the end of the day I'm just I'm literally just a ex- vegan girl turn carnivore she loves music blah blah blah but she's just sharing what works for her and and to learn from you and hear what you said just now it resonates so much and it explains down to a te what happened with me um so you talked about the hormones not able to rise and fall and just respond and I felt that because I lost my period and then I regained it within 2 months of eating carnivore so that must say something about hormones yes yeah yeah yeah that you know I I was looking into your banana gal that when she said I lost yeah I lost my period so it must be a sign that I don't have those toxins in me anymore and I'm like yes what kind of nut job says that that you are a woman that's not a that's you being a girl exactly exactly a healthy girl yeah so without that and you know the number of young women that I see today it is you know Instagrams and Facebook and chasing Tick Tock figures are it's pathologic God gave me three sons but um uh we've done we've done foreign exchange uh students for a while and at the age of 15 a young uh Chinese girl knocked on our door on a Sunday afternoon and said can I live with you she's still my Chinese daughter here in America uh she was from well right next to Wuhan China when when Wuhan China didn't mean anything to anybody so anyway I'm her American mom uh and you look at uh these young women and um how much they're they're just hypnotized into being the right figure and the right shape and it's again this lonely Journey with a screen telling them how to think and behave and then uh the spiral downward of sacrificing brain power and talent and drive and energy and persistence to get through a tough problem uh you know I I'm a big fan of saying watch what happens to your math scores when your not only vitamin D goes down but iron you cannot make the little cells that you have to do to be really good at math without when you're anemic and they're like but isn't everybody anemic I'm like every boy is an anemic look at the industry that math rewards from about 18 years on uh for several years where you say you this is not a badge of honor this is a place where you're sacrificing the development of your brain because of that malnourishment and between vitamin D and iron there are the two top things that predict if I was going to do a functional MRI and say how good are you at math which is a very heavy overlap with music uh you would say right yeah you would say hey uh don't deny her that I mean to say you didn't just drop out with that level of malnourishment says I'm surprised I didn't I would like to shake your mother's hand she built you right thank you thank you yeah I I love my mom she really is um I feel like the reason why I have a very strong quality of you know the whole if I commit to something I will get it done I'm just a very diligent person so shout out to my mom for sure um but yeah I I I really feel like I would have dropped out within that first year if I hadn't started eating meat so I don't think a strict carnivore diet is absolutely necessary for every single person and I do not recommend by the way we're talking about mistakes another big mistake is I went from vegan diet to carnivore diet overnight with zero transition because I was so excited and I was so hopeful but I don't recommend that because oxalate dumping happened for me I was reading about that too so oh my gosh this is a great another major headline that I see with uh vegans or actually with carnivores but when they first go carnivore and they've been on this they've been on a lot of other things so tell that story that's a great place to go yes absolutely so as I was talking about the raw till for diet the 4 P.M and after diet is basically sweet potatoes lots and lots of um kale spinach Steam everything is cooked after 400 p.m. but I did eat tons of sweet potatoes for 6 years straight and I do think that is why I started oxalate dumping and going through some pretty painful symptoms so because I wanted to heal my skin issues like cystic acne like psoriasis eczema and rosacea those were the top four issues for my skin that I really wanted customers out there those are all hormonal based problems they it is hormonal based problems until proven otherwise you can can't fix them until you fix their hormones so you're having these and the signal to me is uhoh uhoh and what are the symptoms when you started that yeah symptoms was I started getting crystals coming out of my eyes specifically and one of the top symptoms for oxalate dumping is crystals coming out of your skin eyes pores you can literally see the crystals like trying it to get its way out through any any way it can so my eyes was the top one and I also had cloud urine Y and that's another very big one so you can you can observe your urine see if it's super cloudy or not and if you're getting lots of Gunk and sticky crystal-like stuff coming out of your eyes and you ate a lot of sweet potatoes or oxalate heavy Foods chances are you you probably are going through oxalate dumping and um my skin issues got itchier before it got better so like worsening yeah I mean I've often described you've heard of the keto rash right oh for sure right where it's super itchy and it migrates and I'm like it's and I talk about it being this fungal in in in between a skin layer but the other thing that it's often mistaken for is their oxalate dumping and it's it's super itchy H and it migr it migrates it's not in the same place every day uh I have this great story about a husband and wife that are both both going carnivore and the wife is a a nurse Advanced practitioner of some sort so she can REM she was removing wax from people's ears and her husband was getting all this wax and she brings in this pile of ear wax saying what in the hell is wrong with my husband's ear wax this has never looked so strange and it was like the source of all of his oxalate dumping was into his ear wax and I'm like well as gross as it is it's going to get better if you just stay the course so it really does though yeah that's true how long did it take you that part is true yeah um it took me okay so with my skin worsening before it got better it's like different tiers of lengths the oxalate dumping for the skin it took 6 months of quite quite a painful period of like uh dealing with the oxalate dumping through the skin my eczema in my chest would get extremely itchy like it was pretty unbearable but knowing myself I was like I'll get through it I I know the stories I did the research it's going to get better uh what helped in regards to the skin is avoiding egg whites for some reason that really helped and I just strictly ate yolks lots of fat contined to eat beef and with the crystals that really only just took 2 months of dumping out of the eyes um but the skin was kind of the last to heal yeah only two months I have people this they get they'll get like the crystals on their armpits in any kind of place they sweat and and they'll say make this go away I'm like yeah you got to go through it not away from it you got to keep going through it in order for it to get better so uh you are a brave woman dang I am so I'm so excited to share your story cuz that's that's exactly what needs to happen it's just um it's not for sissies MH nope it isn't yes well other major one and then we're going to go to our folks's questions here because I do think we have quite a few of them over there awesome yeah uh you have any final uh thing that yes okay yeah let's talk and one more carnivore mistake I have a ton and I love making videos about this because I I think of new ones on on the weekly and so one that I covered recently was okay so with the hair loss I know that this is such a popular topic and because my demographic is mostly women oh good um hair loss yeah hair loss tends to come up quite a bit uh when it comes to comments and questions that I get and I always love to share and you can of course explain this please the whole concept of tillen effluvium with hair loss so I get a lot of people coming and they're saying well I've already started the carnivore diet and I are I'm listening to you eating lots I'm not doing omad for now I'm making sure I'm eating enough lots of fat lots of protein how come my hair is still falling out yeah and so this is where I feel like the top mistake is you are itching for results now yesterday you are looking at all of these success stories of people losing 50 70 lbs their hair growing back like magic it's I get it like really difficult to look at these beautiful testimonials and stories and try to understand like hey it took them a period of time this doesn't it doesn't happen overnight it may seem that way when you watch the videos and you see the posts on Instagram but I want everyone to really focus on your personal journey and documenting so that's that's the biggest mistake is you don't take the progress photos you do obsess on the number on the scale and you often get carried away with the stress and the expectations that you put on yourself of why are not the why are the results not happening now or it's a it's a really good topic too because that hair I mean you want you want to stab at a woman you start taking away her skinny dress and then you take away her hair I'm like oh okay we got to fight uh that that hair follicle is I mean guess what is the biggest influence over whether a hair follicle is a really strong thick shaft that doesn't break it's a hormones it is a hormonal response if you want to see that you know male pattern balding in a female or that frontal that uh Crown balding in a female you give her a bunch of insulin you take those fat-based hormones and you store them in her fat cells so they can't circulate and get to the hair follicle uh we know that anytime you have a stressful event on the human body but take a woman uh that she's going to lose me you're always losing hair you're always losing hair and making hair that's the cycle that's normal but they lose a crop of hair rather quickly especially with that shift of hormones when I have folks write in about this or I advise them I start saying you need to be pricking your finger cuz you can't see how bad that insulin resistance is those morning fasting numbers of glucose and ketones will help you see how your body responded to yesterday's eating and this is where I start to um really um lean into the lessons that need to be understood for insulin resistance and it isn't that your doctor needs to know it it's that the human being eating the food needs to know it so I say I my doctor won't check my fasting insulin I'm like who cares it's not the best number anyway the best number is the one you check right there t test on the toilet don't drive across the city and get your lab checked your insulin is going to do a whole bunch of things before you get to the lab you know God forbid you have a ball movement before you do that because it changes I mean that's how sensitive this hormone is so they're relying on this this doctor medical field to say oh I still have insulin resistant I'm like just check your morning fasting glucose morning fasting ketos first thing in the morning and when you don't get a number that's getting to that lower gki or that lower Dr BOS ratio your your hormones you've stalled your hormones are stuck in a place that they can't help you build those hair follicles and you don't need to have those numbers look good for a day you need to have them look good for a season that's what healing looks like and um this is where uh the food consumption meets you need some data on yourself and don't expect your doctor to ever care as much as you do about these problems you have to document yourself about what your response is to the way you ate yesterday and I mean God in an insulin resistant patient they should be able to see that Improvement within a well for sure within three days of eating sardines only that that's a no fail route which is truly carnivore but also the volume of food in a sardine fast is eat as much as you want until you feel full eat as much as you want until till you feel full and what you routinely see is how their endocrine system gets a new pulse a new Surge and you continue to do that over time and the hair that was baling all comes back with a nice solid thick uh shaft that doesn't break and those are the results the women are looking for uh it is a 90-day cycle though you say oh I did good today day wow so that's the bottom of the folicle till you can start to see the little hairs coming out the skin and so it's not tomorrow you're going to see you got to stay the course and so that's where support that's where following leaders like you to say do not give up see how persistent she was she got the results because she stayed the course it's all her mother's fault accurate yeah we have some great questions here I'm gonna hop over for a quick uh uh announcement and then we're going to go into the questions because uh both Bella and I will answer them we're going to use her expertise and mine let's go to website here um I wanted to point out one thing on our website uh as I share this I'm going to uh take that notot there uh maybe I won't get to move this there we go we're going to move this over here uh as we go to the um Dr B's favorites page um here we have it uh I wanted to point out last week I showed off this magic menopause I get to do a live Q&A with one my friend Anna keca she is an obig who teaches uh teaches on the margins like I do meaning she's an internal she's a Oban physician and uh sees patients for a living but also can prescribe and do all the things that medical doctors do but she really teaches about the hormones of menopause and how being in a ketogenic state or in uh in her um uh uh low carb State really change uh the outcome for women as they go through menopause so as you click on that um uh link you'll see that we are she's asking you to register for this it's going to be 3:00 in the afternoon on a I think it's April 7th and she and I get to have a discussion about what things we agree on what things we differ on I think it's going to be a great discussion I I love this woman I actually did a recording with her in the fall and it's one of my failures that I we lost the recording not lost it meaning the file didn't have anyway it was very embarrassing so I said well let me try again and she's like how about we do it this way so I'm really excited to do this uh we get to talk and answer your questions you do have to sign up to get that link and it's um uh just a wonderful woman who does it she taught me so many things on that first that lecture that got lost about how to use testosterone and women that are going through menopause and something I was really not comfortable doing without her thoroughly answering my questions uh so take the time to uh scroll through what she has here but really just register for the master class April 7th 3 p.m. Eastern and I think you will it's free and you you'll get your answers your questions answered um other announcements I do want to make while I get over to the questions is that um I uh we are we are working on our email campaign that I am super excited about we've been rewriting what will you open I don't like email anymore than the rest of you but we've learned that the the one thing we really own that they can't deplatform us from is our email list so that only works if you open them though so we have collected so many of the questions that uh patients ask us during that 21 day that um uh We've turned into emails and I just think it's the place where I can answer the questions without censorship so we think these are the top questions that folks have been been writing in they put them in several messages like Facebook and Instagram and uh YouTube but we've learned that if we want to thoroughly answer a question uh the email is the safest place to do it so we have a new campaign coming out I think we're two emails in and really looking at how much I enjoyed answering those questions questions to the folks that were live and in class and we're using that content for uh for the questions of how do we help uh folks uh um really understand the problem of um of some of the questions they write because it's not a quick answer there a lot lot more than that all right so we are back to the questions here we go uh thank you for uh waiting patiently there uh Bella I'm going to read this out loud and we'll see who should answer all right so Nikki C writes in and said should I worry about tone numbers lean is on an animal diet 3 months in strictly under 10 gram of carbs daily but see only low kein tone numbers in the morning blood glucose of 70 to 80 and I'm confused well so let's let you answer it and we'll kind of compare notes and take one each one of these one one after another how would you answer that sure yeah so well this question I think maybe your expertise would be much more helpful I'll eat and then you can sh clean up of what you would tell them differ let's do it that way sounds so especially Nikki I want to know why you're doing it um you know those blood glucose look good and if you've already lost the weight if you've got a brain issue which a lot of folks that follow me are looking to like do autophagy in their brain then we're going to want to see you s surge those ketones routinely like every other week you know twice a month that would be um just to make sure that you're giving that stimulus to your metabolism that's what's going to keep it healthy is a stress a routine stress that really surges those ketones now that can be a 3-day sardine challenge that can be uh me we really see good numbers with our lean folks who've got good blood sugars who are really just doing the ketogenic diet for that brain repair you don't have to be in the perfect number all the time you just have to see that when you distress the system that you can see a response into that ketogenic State rather robustly meaning it didn't take you eight days of sardines you were in a hearty response at the end of 72 hours um I I would I would say the less you have to follow things the less you have to count things the more sustainable a process is and if you've got that kind of numbers I would I mean I'd be you know pricking your finger when you do a stress to your system and not get so stressed that those ketones aren't any higher if that's the reason you're doing it anything you you would offer in yeah well hearing you talk I I I feel like maybe I got some really good Ketone numbers in the beginning because the mental Clarity that I felt um starting off a carnivore diet was all there it was actually mindblowing to me the mental Clarity that I got I just literally felt like a cloud was just lifted it's fantastic life it's the best sales thing for this diet is saying watch what you feel amazing yeah yes and I was eating a stick of butter every day at least right so I was I was eating a very high-fat carnivore diet and to this day I I still call myself a very high-fat carnivore um eater and probably the highest fat carnivore I know and that's just because I think my body craves for it to this day even though I don't need a stick a day anymore not even like nearly I'll have like a quarter of a stick every single day but I do need the fats so if I'm not eating butter I am eating fatty cuts of beef there's another thing that was in your notes that I was going to ask you about I think you called it gel from the oxtail or uh oh collagen the gelatinous is that one of my favorites so oxtail is one of my favorite soups to make in my instant pot seriously so easy you throw in your oxtail and they're like these little round pieces of meat with the bone and the collagen very popular in Chinese cuisine so good for the skin and hair you throw in your instant pot cover it with just enough water and I just pressure cook for 50 minutes pressure naturally release and the amount of collagen that you get in that soup you can literally refrigerate it overnight and it becomes a gelatinous about yep yep yep yeah and I personally love the texture of that most people want to vomit looking at that texture they can't handle this Chinese daughter we we went to visit her family in China and they served us duck heads oh yeah so they have all kinds of strange foods there you they were strange to us but she loved them and we oxtail is one of the things that she's like oh no no this is very Chinese yeah so Chinese so normal like we love all the Exotic cuts and especially one with high collagen well and I think you know her skin I mean she was a typical teenage eating plenty of junk food and then she knocks on the wrong door if you're trying to get away with a bunch of junk food so here here she lands on her family and she goes back to see her mom and she had curves she was a woman uh not the like boylik structure she was before puberty but she was lean and she was so healthy she's like and her mom thought it was the duck fat and the all these things I'm like we don't might Fe that but oxtail is easy so and the that recipe of quick and easy um yeah the low car boka is this wonderful event that I go to and speak here in Florida and every year they serve oxtail for their menu and I have failed to get to the table when there's still some left twice in a row I'm like I am going to get there next year anyway funny girl writes in and says what is the best thing I can do to reduce insulin resistance my MD says that I've been uh eating too much protein uh so as a carnivore how would you so they're insulin resistant there says oh you're eating too much protein tell me how you would think through that so with the whole too much protein part I feel like when you if if she is doing a carnivore diet rather than an animal- based approach because animal based to me is you eat mostly animal foods but you have some fruits you have some vegetables on the um I feel like if you're going carniv and you're strictly cutting out all of those carbs you're basically zero carb um unless you're eating tons of dairy and cheese you should naturally be able to uh resolve the insulin resistance with enough time and consistency of course I don't think doing carnivore 5 days a week and then two days during the weekend having standard American diet treat meals is going to help so much with the insulin resistance and because insulin resistance wasn't the top of my uh things to heal and resolve it was really the hormone healing and also the skin issues um I didn't do any specific uh strategies or tips or tricks to try to get the insulin resistance reversed although I'm sure I was insulin resistant with six years of eating only plant foods and fruits and sugar and carbs um but I felt like the the hormone healing maybe you can talk about this a little bit like with with the extreme hormone healing that's also may be a sign of insulin right resistance when the hormones are back to doing what they're they can't do what they're supposed to do Under the toxicity of excessive insulin so whether that's because you your amount of fat you were consuming was so low that your hormones couldn't do what they were supposed to because they didn't have the sources to make them if we slide to um most insulin resistant patients that come into me have been insulin resistant for years they have no idea how insulin resistant they are and they are are right at at the first step especially if they go carnivore they have wild they're wildly successful mainly because the carbohydrates are so much less and they they do that first season and they are like I am in I am never leaving this style of eating this is my favorite I can't believe how good I feel and then they plateau and what's happened during the plateau is your body got used to a lower level of insulin and it's doing the same thing it did before meaning the insulin is causing you to have a a poor input of fuel inside a cell meaning it's in your cir the glucose is in circulation but it can't get in the cell and it's taking way more insulin than than is healthy I'm putting that air quotes because each stage of this ins reversing of insulin resistance is a better version of health and it's better than they were and why isn't it still working and it's because the the acquisition of insulin resistance took that you raised your insulin a little bit and then about 6 months later you raised your insulin a little a little higher then you you raised your insulin a little higher and so now you're you're 10 you know 10 15 years into an insulin that's too high you go carnivore and you lowered it now it's back not back to healthy it's it's down and you feel good and the ketones are floating around and your brain feels better and fuel is going into places it hasn't in years and then the body gets used to this other level of insulin that's still too high so it's like the problem came back yet your behavior was still but I'm carnivore that's what I did before and uh then they do naughty things like they give up the fat and they start eating the lean breast chicken breasts or a fish that they take all the fat out of they don't eat fatty fish they eat like fish without any skin or something they just you got to put the fat in with it because the The only fat that's going to get into their cells uh when that insulin is high is the consumption of fat and so so it's really where a sardine challenge does a great job of saying let me show you 72 hours of eating only this fatty fish and eat as much as you want at any hour you wake up at 3:00 in the morning you're hungry I don't care just watch what happens during that challenge because they lower their insulin during that menu guaranteed I haven't seen a one person fail on it it is such an idiot proof uh menu that it comes in a can doesn't go bad just keep eating and what what really happens is there's plenty of protein in there but it is in so much fat uh that um and it's really hard to overeat s i could overeat oxtail I can overeat a stick of butter but I cannot overeat sardines I can eat enough of them and then I'm just done that's a TIY is very real I'm done I'm done thank you so when I look at somebody saying what's the best thing to reduce insulin res resistance insulin resistance when your doctor says you're eating too much protein uh it's protein relative to the amount of fat that's in circulation so the fastest way to undo that is to put really high fat back in your menu uh do it steadily for three days and you'll know you're getting there because the morning ketones go from 0.2 to 0.4 to 0.6 to now they're 1.2 I mean it is a even when they go off of that um like high sardine or high fat diet or they kind of just they say okay I'm put the throttle on the fat for 3 Days even on the fourth morning the next day those ketones are high enough that they now you've got a metabolic stimulus again and you get to bask in that stimulus it's not a forever problem you're going to get away with this menu again but you have to keep priming this pump you know the other the other question that comes along with this and I can see it a few questions down is well how long do I have to do this for I'm like well reversing insulin resistance I I teach patients about the lifespan of their beta cells so the beta cells which are the cells in your pancreas that are making insulin they have a they have a footprint from their ancestors the cells that they were divided from became of how much insulin should you make and the answer is well the peak amount that we had to make in our lifespan was X so the replication comes from you cannot cheat on the weekends your beta cells are keeping score they need to know how much insulin to make for the Next Generation so you can get away with a lot of high fat you can even do some of these surges like just get a high fat season for three days Watch What Happens and then you can even go back to a relatively similar menu like wasn't that too much high protein yeah it was too much high it was too high of a protein when you had no ketones helping you out when you had no fat in circulation or lower fat and that's the enemy of insulin resistance is like what used to work I don't know why it's not working I'm not doing anything different and you're like yeah but your body keeps score and those beta cells are still making too much insulin you got to stress them and then stay in that season so it's not a whittling down of it is a pulse of getting high fat for long enough to get that metabolic Surge and they feel good I mean the best part about we do a sardine challenge every time I do that um 21-day course that I do and I tell people you might not like me at the beginning but everybody loves us at the end because they feel so good and almost like a reminder of this is what I remember feeling like on the you know carnivore diet so fascinating so can carnivore heal shingles nerve pain what would you shingles nerve pain wow well I hear stories every day from the community from um members in the steak and butter gang as well of nerve damage and nerve issues getting better being reversed and healing so one great example that I literally talked about on um my Friday night Liv stream with Todd so Todd has a fantastic story because he was like at death store he was struggling with his health so much and he shares every single week what what helps him what he's experimenting with and he talked about how he literally couldn't even feel anything at the bottom of his feet and like near near his feet area and for the longest time but after going carnivore he can now feel sensation at his feet so these types of stories uh give me a lot of Hope with questions like this although I don't have experience I hear it every day it's very similar so there's a couple of good ones that I think you're going to be way better at than me so I'll take this last one and then I'll make sure get the next one so yeah the nerve pain from uh from a diabetic neuropathy which is probably what that gentleman had where it starts at the feet and works up it might be from I'm putting this in air quotes insulin resistance neuropathy which there's not a great diagnostic code they want you to be diabetic before they say that but the damage is done for the 15 years before they get diabetes uh there there's like a a sheath around around the outside of your nerve that's made of fat and um in shingles the virus that's replicating inside the nerve will almost this isn't exactly what happens but the imagery is really good almost boil away the fat on that nerve as it's replicating it hurts something terrible because it removes the the fat lining for this nerve which is where shingles gets this terrible um and appropriate uh description of incredibly painful the nerve or the electrical wire is just short circuiting and so they hurt all the time you can like you blow air over their skin and it's just electrical shocks oh W so to heal it you need a high fat setting you need a low inflammation which is where ketones are in circulation and a high fat setting and just like with the those beta cells you don't need it for a hot minute you need it long enough to seal back up that fat uh and it can be a long time uh in fact my textbook said you can't do it everyone you know once you get diabetic neuropathy they're never going to get that back we never see it come back and that's not true we see it come back when the inflammation is low when the ketones are high and they stay in a high fat low carbohydrate keto KET ketogenic um State often delivered by by carnivore diet yeah so there you go all right so this is definitely for you are panic attacks common during the transition to carnivore I get them every couple of days o wow that is that is such a fascinating question so panic attacks I would get anxiety attacks I don't know if that's exactly the same thing but um so on a vegan diet I would get anxiety attacks anytime I would be backstage before a concert anytime I even thought about a deadline that I was getting close to I get this surge of anxiety the chest is tightening up I'm having difficulty breathing and so what I realized is when I switch to a carnivore diet again high fat carnivore diet eating tons of fat sticks of butter lots of fatty ribe eyes and beef I stopped getting anxiety attacks that's and so back stage at the biggest stages Carnegie Hall all of it I'm not nervous at all like which is just again like mindblowing just thinking about it how can someone go from having anxiety attacks To None backstage at the most intimidating stages um and you just just I felt so confident I was like I'm going to slay this concert and I enjoyed it no that's exactly right I mean one of my favorite uh lectures was watching Chris Palmer as psychiatrist from Harvard talk about what I was whispering about which is is anybody else seeing how much these brains are and I'm like I'm scared to talk about it because is it real am I making this up how can these patients get so much better nobody's writing about this and Chris Palmer gets up on stage and he talks about how his schizophrenic patient was was talking about his schizophrenia with with reasoning which is like the opposite of a SCH they can't they don't realize that those voices are not real or that those sounds are not real he like you know doc those voices that you've been telling me aren't real I know they're not real now I mean that's like a profound statement from a a psychotic patient and I got I I I I've never stalked somebody but I stalked him at that conference saying I need to speak to you because I'm hearing this too and it is truly that um reversal of how well nourished a brain gets when it's the inflammation is gone when the hormones are doing what they're supposed to do much like we talked about so there's a last uh question that I think you're going to be the answer to which David C writes in and says how long does oxalate dumping last and I know you answered it but let's see if we can wrap share what your experiences and what you hear other folks answering that absolutely so this is this is uh not to like stress you guys out but my my best answer is it really can vary greatly greatly so another example I'm going to bring up Todd uh the carnivore cure one more time he's a couple years into his Carnivor journey and just now is he's starting to have oxalate dumping symptoms which is mindblowing and he is drinking tea to kind of lessen the harshness of the symptoms and it's helping a lot for him um so that's another tip is you you ingest things that have low oxalates like tea and maybe like uh lemon juice to make sure that you don't suffer as much that it's not as painful but for me it was uh 2 months for the crystals coming out of the eyes and 6 months for my skin to stop being like oh I hate this I hate you I'm going to make it worse before it gets better well you have a great uh commercial for your skin right now so we take that with a win uh you know I I tell folks when whenever somebody is saying how long is it going to last I said I can answer this much better if you tell me you're in ketosis if you can show me that ketones are in circulation and they stay there they and again they're going to EB and flow but for the most part you continue to stress your metabolism so that you're making them that's the shortest answer we know uh when you hang out in that insulin resistant stage and your body is not able to use that fat as fuel which you can measure with morning Ketone numbers uh on that prick of a finger you can study this you can watch it and you can influence it so well Bella I can't tell you I will forever make sure that all of my vegans that come to this stage where I say I am not your girl if you're trying to do keto on a vegan diet I just I have nothing to do with you but I think you have turned into the spin and you kind of get this great energy from being able to you know rally with them and say hey I've been you and here's what here's what the answer is and it's probably my favorite Parts about when I see you and Sean Baker doing his angle for it and you doing yours right well everybody uh give a big uh praise for her in the comments uh uh we will have her her channel the steak and butter gal linked here on YouTube although most of you probably know who it is uh it is a lot of Bravery to come on a live show so please make sure to give her the praise in those comments and I will say thank you thank you again for being one of the very few guests that I bring on to my show we see you next week everybody Hon oh wait I have one more announcement I am gonna come to you live from a special place next Tuesday so tune in next week to see where where is Dr boss so I'll see you next week everybody
