Friends, I recently watched the Tamil psychological thriller film "Trending," directed by Shivaraj. On IMDb, this film has 5.7 stars out of 10, and its rating isn't available on Rotten Tomatoes. So, in today's video, we will discuss the story of the movie " Trending" and talk about its ending. The film begins by introducing us to a couple, the husband named Arjun and the wife named Meera. They were both lifestyle influencers. Meaning, they had a YouTube channel named Arjun-Meera . They had a Facebook page and even an Instagram handle where they did daily live vlogs. You know, making those cute couple videos and all that, something like that. In fact, they had 2.98 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, which was their primary source of income. During the intro song, we are shown their YouTube journey and how their subscribers grew. Then came the silver play button, followed by the gold play button. Then they bought a house, a car, and everything else. Not only that, they had even won the Best Couple award just last week. But there was a problem in their life. The problem was that despite trying hard, Meera wasn't getting pregnant, and they desperately wanted a child. Additionally, in one scene, we see old cut marks on Meera's arm, and she is crying. Why that is, you will find out as the story progresses. For now, both their lives are going great, and one night they go to a friend's party who just hit 5 million subscribers. Here, they are talking about the YouTube algorithm and the slow growth of their subscribers. Also, we viewers realize that Meera has kept a secret from her past hidden from her husband Arjun to this day. After the party, when Arjun goes to his car, he gets a call from a private number. The man on the other end is inviting Arjun to a reality game show, and to accept, Arjun must honk his car horn three times. Arjun thinks it's a fake call, says he's not interested, and hangs up the phone. Well, after this, Meera gets into the car, and Arjun tells her that if they want to go viral for a week or two, they have to fake a divorce notice in front of their subscribers so they can start trending everywhere. Meera finds this strange, but Arjun starts convincing her to play along with this drama. In fact, Arjun had even had a fake notice prepared, and he was planning to start this drama from the next day. But the next morning, when Arjun wakes up, he realizes that his channel has been wiped from YouTube. Yes friends, Arjun was in total shock, and he tells Meera about it. Both of them try to get help from their friends at YouTube support. But their channel wasn't coming back. After the channel is gone, they trend on Twitter for a day or two. Then people forget them and move on. Exhausted and defeated, they create a second channel named Arjun Meera 2.0. Now, they got a few subscribers on this channel, but the comments were mostly negative. I mean, it generally happens that when a YouTuber goes from small to successful and buys a house and car, people get jealous. And then they gain a lot of haters who want to see their downfall. So, once the downfall happened, hate comments started pouring in when they started the new channel. In this situation, Arjun and Meera resort to paid PR to get positive comments posted . But with the main channel gone, their earnings had become almost zero. Because of this, they couldn't pay their home EMIs for two months, and loan collectors came to their house to physically intimidate and threaten Arjun. Arjun asks them for a week's time so he can arrange the money. Anyway, the next day, Meera gets a call from a private number where the man on the other side invites her to a reality game show. This was the same man who had called Arjun earlier as well. But Arjun had ignored his call. Meera also thinks it's a prank call. But this man tells Meera that she can earn a lot of money from this game show. Which would put an end to all her problems. To participate in the game show, Meera just needs to ring her doorbell three times. Since Meera was currently in a financial crunch, she rings the doorbell three times, which accepts her participation in the game show, and in exchange for this small task, one lakh rupees arrive in Meera's bank account. After this, the person on the phone says that he will call Meera again at exactly 5:00. Now Meera immediately tells Arjun everything, and at first, Arjun is angry about why Meera wants to participate in such an unknown game show. But when Arjun finds out that Meera got 1 lakh rupees for a small task, he also gets excited about the game. At exactly 5:00, they get a call back, and the caller calls himself the host of this game show. The host was wearing a strange Yin-Yang type mask and he calls himself Mask as well. Arjun asks Mask if this show is legal and how they are paying so much money for simple tasks. To this, Mask says that the show is completely legal. In fact, there are only two players in this show, Meera and Arjun, and they have to play the game show in their own home. This game will have a total of four stages and will last for 7 days, and if they win the show, they will get 1 crore rupees as prize money. As for who watches this show? Well, Mask said that this show is watched by some private users who are very wealthy people, which is why the show pays so much for small tasks. Now friends, it hasn't been explicitly said in the movie, but from Mask's words, it seems as if this show is streamed on the dark web or something similar. Anyway, Meera was skeptical about whether they should play this show or not. But hearing such a huge amount, Meera and Arjun get ready to play the games. That night, the game show people come to their house and install cameras everywhere in the house. Then they place two boxes in their house. Then different TVs and speakers, and then they place a buzzer that had red and green buttons. Then a large container and finally a gift box as well. Before leaving, the game show people draw a yellow line and a red line beyond it outside their house. After setting everything up, the game show people leave, and the game begins the next day where Mask appears on their TV. Mask explains three rules of the game. First, only these two will play the game. The second rule is that until the game ends, they will not cross the red line drawn outside their house. And the third rule is that they must not tell anyone about this game show. Now, if they want to quit the game at any point, they have to press the red button on the buzzer. Keep in mind that if both press the red button, they can quit the game and take home all the money they have won. But if only one person presses the red button, they will have to quit without taking any prize money. Now, the two boxes placed here were related to the game, which would open in stages. However, the one gift box has nothing to do with the game. Opening that box will cut their winnings in half, and it contains a kind of alarm that will cause them both trouble. Trouble, because after opening the box, they will learn things about each other's pasts that won't be good for them. Hearing this, Arjun and Meera laugh because, according to them, they haven't hidden anything about their pasts from each other. Regardless , both decide that they will not open that gift box under any circumstances. Anyway, the game begins, and the first stage was quite simple, where they had to play basic home games. Like throwing balls into a bin, playing darts, walking while holding cups, and all that. From these games, they both earn 3 lakh rupees. Additionally, their stream received 220 likes, and they were to get 1000 rupees per like. So, the total amount from likes became 2,20,000 rupees, meaning the total amount from the first game was 5,20,000 rupees. But here comes the last round of the first stage, where there is a twist. The twist is that they both have to make a 30-second reel, and this reel must get 50k likes in 15 minutes. Otherwise, all the money they have won will become zero. Hearing this, both get stressed because getting 50k likes on a reel in 15 minutes was almost impossible. Here, they both start brainstorming ideas for their reels, and Arjun realizes that if things are broken, reels get likes. That's why he thinks of breaking the bike gifted by his wife, because people might like this video. But just then, he gets a notification that Meera has already made and uploaded a reel. Arjun checks it, and in this reel, Meera was grooving with bold moves, holding a cigarette and alcohol in her hands. Now , friends, Meera's online persona was that of a simple girl. But suddenly, seeing such a reel of hers, the audience starts engaging, and likes start pouring in on the reel. Meanwhile , Arjun couldn't figure out what reel to make. So, he hangs from the roof to make a dangerous reel, saying it's a rooftop challenge. So, both of their reels have been uploaded. The likes start coming in. But in 15 minutes, Arjun's reel only gets about 1,000 likes. Meanwhile, Mira's reel crosses over 5,000 likes. In this case, Mira wins additional money. Then, they were still getting paid per like for the private audience likes. So, altogether, the total amount that now adds up is ₹ 17,000. Stage one of the game ends, but cracks had started to form between Mira and Arjun by now. Arjun was not happy that Mira posted a reel like that . Meanwhile, Mira was not happy that Arjun hung from the roof just for likes . Finally, they both explain to each other that it's just a game. This task has nothing to do with their personal life, and after earning enough money, they will both quietly quit the game. Now, that night, they find out that some people started doing Arjun's rooftop challenge, and one guy even fell and broke his leg. The show says that nowadays people start doing anything in the name of challenges. Now , that same night, a person from the game show comes to their house and leaves a briefcase behind. The briefcase lock code was the same as the likes Mira got on her reel in those 15 minutes, which was 51234. If you look at this number, it's something like 1 2 3 4 5. Just that five is at the beginning, then 1 2 3 4. Anyway, as the briefcase opens, they find lots of money inside. Basically, this was the amount they had won in the first stage. Seeing the money, both are very happy and even throw the money around in the room. They plan that as soon as they win ₹ 20 lakhs. They will both quit the game because they only needed ₹ 20 lakhs. Anyway, the next day the game's music plays, which means it was time for stage two. In this stage, both contestants are asked to open box number one, from which they get earpieces. Through these earpieces, they will receive the task instructions . Now, only one person will get the task here, which they have to complete on time, and this person cannot tell the other about their task. In fact, they cannot even use gestures. When the time comes, they will hear the task in their earpieces. So, after putting on the earpieces, they are both waiting for the task when Mira's mother arrives at their house. They both welcome him, and that's when Meera receives a secret task to cook her mother's favorite meal , sambar rice, and feed it to her within 2 hours. Now, this was a very simple task. And for this task, Meera had to place a bet using the money she had already won. If she won the task, the bet amount would be doubled. Meera bets ₹ 3 lakhs here because making sambar rice is a very easy job. Now friends, ideally the task was meant for only one person, but the Mask was lying . He was playing a double game. He gives Arjun a task as well, saying he must get Meera's mother out of the house within 10 minutes. So, Arjun gets someone to call Meera's mother from outside, telling her that her husband has had an accident. Hearing this, Meera's mother starts crying and leaves the house. But Meera couldn't go with her because she couldn't cross the house's red line. That is why Meera calls a cab for her mother and sends her to the hospital. As soon as Meera's mother leaves, the game show music plays and the Mask announces that Arjun has won this task. Yes friends, Meera lost 3 lakhs, but Arjun won 6 lakhs. Along with the likes, the total amount has now become ₹ 11,73,000. Here, Arjun and Meera find out that they were both given tasks, and Meera gets upset because Arjun told a massive lie for this task. Meera said her mother is a heart patient and she could have died hearing such news. Meera immediately calls her mom to console her, saying that someone must have made a prank call. Dad hasn't had an accident. At this point, Arjun tries to explain to Meera that this is just a game. It's a task. You shouldn't link it to your personal life. But for Meera, this matter had become way too personal. And so, she thinks about crossing the red line and quitting the game. Arjun stops her and explains that as soon as they reach 20 lakhs, they will both quit the game. Meera doesn't cross the red line, but she kept insisting on quitting the game. Meanwhile, a notification pops up on Arjun's phone that YouTube has restored his original channel, which had almost 3 million subscribers. Which means, friends, that they could both leave the game now and go back to earning from YouTube. But Arjun decides to hide this from Meera. In fact, he temporarily deactivates the channel himself so that Meera doesn't find out about it. This way, Arjun will be able to convince Meera to play this game show until they win 20 lakhs. Meera gets convinced and agrees to Arjun's suggestion. Now, the next task comes up for Meera. Where Meera bets 10 lakhs from the money they have won. 10 lakhs, so that they can immediately make it 20 and leave. The task was for Meera to create a simple 10-second video within 10 minutes. But that video had to be uploaded to the original channel. Now, Meera still thought that her original channel was already gone. So how would she be able to do that? The 10 minutes pass in this thought, and not only does Meera lose the task, but she also loses 1 lakh from the money earned. Now, when the Mask reveals this task to Arjun, he gets furious because Meera had lost 10 lakhs. But here, Meera blames the Mask, saying the task was rigged because how could a video be uploaded to a channel that had already been deleted? Hearing this, Arjun quietly reveals that the channel is back and he knew that if Meera found out, she would want to quit the game show. So, in his greed to earn more money from the game show, Arjun himself had deactivated the channel. Hearing this, Meera gets furious, and fights start between the couple. Meera says that Arjun is taking this game and the tasks way too seriously. And Arjun's argument was that if Meera wasn't serious, then why didn't she go with her mom to see her father when she found out about the accident? I mean, initially, even Meera felt that the accident had truly happened. Even then, she didn't go to see her father. She prioritized the game. In short, both of them were affecting their personal lives for the sake of the game. They were fighting. No matter how much they say that this is just a game, this is just a task, and it has nothing to do with their personal life. Anyway, the next day was Arjun's birthday, and Meera brings a cake for him. Meera gives Arjun a special gift here, which contained her pregnancy test kit. This reveals that Meera is pregnant. Arjun is very happy about this, and he goes to give Meera the pendant his mother had given him. Basically, it was a tradition in their house where the pendant is passed on through generations if the woman of the house becomes pregnant. But the very next moment Arjun stops because he doubts if this is some kind of task. They argue about this again, and finally, Arjun accepts that Meera is indeed pregnant. Then he even gives the pendant to Meera . Now, the Mask also wishes Arjun a happy birthday, and Arjun asks the Mask how they pay the contestants so much money. The Mask reveals that their private viewers place bets on what the game show contestants will do next. A lot of money is made on that basis, and a share of it is given as a reward. As I told you before, most probably these games are streamed on the dark web. Where many rich people place bets using their private accounts. Anyway, Meera is crying in the car because she has become exhausted by this game. She tells Arjun that understanding each other is essential in love, and these games are distracting them. It's no longer just a game, and they should quit the game now. Even though they haven't earned as much money as they had initially thought. Arjun initially refuses, but at Meera's constant crying and pleading, he agrees to quit the game too. They both go inside the house , where, at Meera's request, Arjun presses the red button. As he does so, the Mask appears on the TV and congratulates Meera. Yes friends, this was Meera's task where she had to make her husband press the red button, which she achieved through brilliant emotional acting. She received ₹ 2 lakh for this task. Plus 528 likes; you know, they get ₹ 1000 per like. So in total, Meera won ₹ 728,000 from this task. But friends, after this task, Arjun was completely upset because Meera had literally played with his emotions. Arjun was very frustrated, and so he decides to put Meera to a test. Arjun pretends to faint on purpose, and Meera puts him in the car to take him to the hospital. But she hesitates before crossing the red line. At this, Arjun gets up and becomes very upset because even when it came to his health and his life, Meera was still hesitating to cross that red line. Meaning, deep down, the game was still on her mind, and perhaps she was prioritizing the game. Meera tries to explain to Arjun that it all just happened in the moment. Otherwise, nothing is more important to Meera than Arjun. But friends, Arjun no longer trusted a word Meera said. Then Mask TV comes on and talks about the final stage, and this task was called Read the Book Backwards. Meaning, their past secrets will be revealed here. They will get a riddle here, and the answer will be hidden in each other's past. At this point, Meera says she doesn't want to continue this game anymore. While Arjun was now ready to play the game. In fact, he even presses the green buzzer. Mask gives Meera some time to think here. Meanwhile, Meera talks to Mask and tells him how she had a boyfriend named Varun before Arjun, and Varun had cheated on her. After being cheated on, Meera felt she would never find anyone in life again. That her life was ruined. But then she met Arjun and all her happiness returned. That's why Arjun is truly the most important person to Meera, and she can do anything for him. Meanwhile, Arjun opens that gift box, from which he gets a lighted screen. As the timer hits zero on it, an alarm starts ringing in the whole house, and Meera sees that Arjun has opened the gift. This means their prize money will be halved and their past will now be revealed to them . In anger, Meera also presses the green button on the buzzer so they can both find out each other's entire past. So for the task, Meera is shown four college group photos in which she had to find Arjun. Meera makes a guess that this is Arjun, but her guess turns out to be wrong. On the other hand, Arjun gets a question: what medical condition did Meera suffer from for a long time? Meaning, what did she receive treatment for? First option viral fever, second option mental stress, third severe colic, and fourth none of the above. Arjun says that Meera had a boyfriend before who cheated on her. So Meera must have mostly had mental stress. Arjun's answer was also wrong because the correct answer was none of the above. So clearly, they didn't know everything about each other's past. Now Arjun wanted to know about Meera's past . He wanted to know about her illness. And in this situation, Arjun secretly starts calling Meera's friend randomly, claiming he has found out about Meera's past medical records. And he is supportive of her. Hearing all this, some of Meera's friends get confused. But then, one friend reveals that before her marriage, Meera had an abortion. Yes friends, hearing this, Arjun was shocked and that is when he realizes that when Meera broke up with Varun, she was pregnant. Because of this, Meera had to get an abortion, and perhaps that is why Meera still struggles with pregnancy today, and that is why we saw cuts on her hands in the initial scenes, as she must have been very depressed about it. Learning this, Arjun completely loses his temper and yells at Meera. Meera says she was going to tell Arjun, but in the last 4 years, she couldn't gather the courage. By this point, their relationship had completely soured, and feeling upset, Meera lies down in the bathtub, clothes and all. Now, Arjun comes there and even tries to drown Meera. Although, at the last moment, Meera gets out. Arjun says sorry to Meera, and she couldn't understand why Arjun did that to her. Did he get this as a task, or did Arjun actually do it in a fit of rage? Arjun gives no answer to this. He was just trying to apologize and make up with Meera. Now at this point comes the final task, which was that Arjun and Meera had to recreate an old video of theirs in 10 minutes, where they were very lovey-dovey with each other. Given the current circumstances, being lovey-dovey to recreate the video was out of the question. Meera was not mentally stable at all, and she couldn't do it, and that's why the task couldn't be completed and finally, they both lost the game. The Mask says goodbye to them, but before he leaves, Meera asks him if what happened in the bathtub was a task. The Mask reveals nothing here. He just says all the best and leaves. So friends, after this game show, Meera and Arjun's relationship was completely broken, and they had become distant from each other. So much so that Meera thinks about going to her mother's house. But just then, goons come to their house to collect rent, and Meera and Arjun had no money. Why? Because they had lost the game show. All their money was gone. The goons then plan to pull off Meera's scarf and record a video of her. But Arjun fights the goons and offers them his car instead of money. After this incident, their relationship improves a little. However, Meera keeps asking Arjun if he was drowning her in the bathtub because of the task. Before Arjun can answer, a family friend named Arul arrives at their house. Arul came to ask for 1.5 million rupees, offering a 2- million-rupee necklace as collateral for his daughter’s heart surgery. Arjun clearly states that his own financial situation is tight. So, there is no way he can give 1.5 million to Arul. As Arul begins to leave, Arjun receives a call from a private number. Yes friends, this call was from the Masked man, who says season two of the game has begun. If Arjun wants to win 20 million by playing for two days, his first task is to stop Arul. Not just stop him, Arjun has to find a way to keep Arul in his house until 6:00 PM tomorrow. Since Arjun desperately needs money, he blocks Arul's car before he can leave. Arjun goes to the roof to talk to Arul and starts asking how he ended up in this situation. Arul explains that until last year, he had a turnover of 70 to 80 million. But then he trusted someone who betrayed him. As a result, all of Arul's money was lost. In fact, he is currently under a lot of debt. His daughter is in the hospital for heart surgery. Here, Meera did not have to engage in sexual relations. Just had to seduce him. Of course, hearing this, both Meera and Arjun get furious and refuse. Mask gives them time until evening to think and complete the task. People were betting on this task. Where most people believed that they would do the task. On the other hand, Arjun kept thinking that he had promised Arul 1.5 million. But he doesn't have the money. Meaning after 6:00 PM, Arul will realize that Arjun was just wasting his time by keeping him in the house for no reason, and since Arul couldn't arrange money from anywhere else, his daughter won't survive. Disturbed by all these thoughts, Arjun tells Meera that if she seduces Arul, they will get 20 million. From that, Arjun will give 1.5 million to Arul, which will save his daughter. Meaning, by completing this task, they will not only save the life of Arul's daughter Divya but also save their own lives because they have to pay their EMIs, right? The goons come to collect the money. Arjun also mentions that Meera had made a reel for the first task of the first game, which was a bit bold. So she can try to seduce him again. Meera was furious hearing all this because she had no intention of doing it at all. Meanwhile, Arjun gets a call from Arul's mother saying that Divya has had an attack and her operation must happen in a day or two, or else she won't survive. And at this point, Arjun had to somehow arrange the money, so he tells Meera to complete the task. Meera was initially not agreeing to this, but at one point, she starts feeling compelled to do it. With only 2 hours and 40 minutes left, some new rules are introduced. First, Arjun will not return the losing bag to Arul under any circumstances. Second, Arjun can no longer make any outgoing calls. Number three, the yellow line in their house before the red line is now their new red line. Meaning, they cannot cross the yellow line before 6 o'clock. Anyway, first Arjun gets Arul a bit drunk to intoxicate him. Then Meera dresses up and starts talking to Arul nicely. She was very uncomfortable. But in the middle of the conversation, she touches Arul's hand. Arul realizes that Meera is coming onto him, and he starts to pull away. Meanwhile, Arjun, who was watching all this, breaks a glass in his hand in anger. After this, Meera goes into Arul's room and starts moving towards him, and Arul refuses, saying that all this is wrong. Still, Meera was moving towards him. She was complimenting him, and in this situation, Arul finally moves towards Meera. Meaning, Arul was seduced, and Meera's task ends right there. As soon as the task ends, Meera pulls back and tells Arul that he is a gentleman. During all this, Arjun was listening to everything with his ear to the door. Anyway, as soon as Meera comes out, Arjun gets angry at her, asking why she was saying such nice things to Arul. Does she mean any of it? Meera snaps back at Arjun, saying that he was the one who told her to do the task and sent her to Arul, and now he is shouting at her. Both of them take him to the roof to give him the location of the bag. But friends, the contents of this bag had already been changed the previous night. Meaning, where is the real necklace? Only Arjun knows that. In fact, instead of the necklace, there was now a gun inside the bag. Arun takes out the gun and points it at Arjun and Meera, and online betting was underway on who Arun would kill. Both of them ask Arun to lower the gun.
