N/A Hey, it's LSF here today. Welcome back to the channel. I woke up this morning, checked my Lexus app, wanted to remote start it, and guess what? Another safety recall for my 2022 Lexus NX. I went and checked my records, including this one. This will be my fourth safety recall on this car. On top of that, I've had another three limited service campaigns or LSC's. This is a total of seven trips to the dealer for unplanned software updates and service. Honestly, as an owner, I started to lose count. This is the most recalled Lexus I've ever owned. And while most of them are minor software updates, the inconvenience is really starting to add up. But this one, this one is big. It's not just the NX. Toyota and Lexus have announced a recall for over 1.1 million vehicles across North America due to a serious backup camera issue. Let's get into it. N/A this safety recall, the RL2, also known as the XL2. The problem is that under certain circumstances, the backup camera image may not display or it might freeze briefly right after you shift into reverse. Obviously, if you're backing up and expecting to see what's behind you and the screen is black or frozen, that's a huge problem. In some ways, if it's black, you may think, "Okay, maybe I can look back at my rearview mirror." But if it's frozen, you expect that there's nobody behind you. But in fact, there is someone. So, isn't that a big problem? It's a non-compliance with federal safety standards, and Toyota states it can increase the risk of a crash with a person behind the vehicle. Definitely true. N/A This is one of the widest range recalls I've seen. It covers a huge portion of the 2022 to 2025 model year lineup. For Lexus, it includes the ES, GX, LC, LS, LX, NX, RX, RZ, and the new TX. For Toyota, it's the BZ4X, Camry, Crown, Crown, Signia, Grand Highlander, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prius, Ralph 4, Sienna, and the Venza. You can see how many models and vehicles are being recalled. So, basically, if you bought a new Toyota or Lexus in the last few years, you need to check your vehicle. N/A So, what is the remedy? The good news is it's a software issue. The press release says dealers will update the software for the panoramic view monitor systems parking assist ECU at no cost to customers. The bad news, this sounds like another trip to the dealer. The recall doesn't mention an overthe-air update, which means owners will likely have to schedule an appointment and bring the car in. And for me, that's the real story here. However, when you look at this, it does say the panoramic view monitor. So, if your card is not equipped with the panoramic view monitor, you probably will not get this recall. I don't know. So, let me know in the comments below. Did you get this notification? And do you have the panoramic view monitor? Follow me on Instagram at LSFT videos. And now, let's continue with the video. N/A This is what's truly frustrating. We have these incredible advanced cars that are computers on wheels. But for a simple software patch, a million of us will have to go to the dealership and sit in dealership waiting for it to get fixed. This is where Tesla really sets the standard. They are fixing these recalls, even critical ones, with overthe-air updates for years. You just wake up and the car is fixed. And they aren't the only ones anymore. My research shows that brands like Ford with the power up system, Rivian, Polestar, all have over-the-air updates to fix critical safety recalls right now. In fact, Polestar recently fixed a recall for the park assist camera, the exact same issue component as the Lexus recall completely over the air. This is a feature Toyota is planning for. They have been talking about the next generation arena operating system that finally allows these kinds of critical over-the-air updates. But for my 2022 NX, the other million vehicles in this recall were stuck in the present. Now, as a software developer at heart, I have to admit the idea of pushing updates to critical components like brakes or cameras over the air does make me a little bit nervous. The security has to be perfect and it's not a needless worry. Just recently, Ford had an over-the-air update that glitched and disabled the anti-lock braking and stability control systems on some vehicles, forcing another recall to fix the fix. This is why security is paramount. Tesla is famous for its hackathons where they basically pay people to try and find holes in their system so they can patch them. But at the end of the day, if a system is built by human, another human can find a way to crack it. We all make mistakes. But that's clearly the direction the industry is heading. We can only hope all these brands are building their systems to be as secure as possible. So, while we wait for true overthe-air N/A future from Toyota, it does look like I'll be booking my eighth service appointment for one of these campaigns. Here is what you need to do. Don't wait for the letter. Toyota says they'll notify owners by late December, but you can find out right now. Check your Tota or Lexus app. That's how I found mine. It will show up in the health section of your Lexus app. Go directly to the official recall website. I'll have the link in the description below. All you need to do is put in your VIN number and it'll tell you instantly what kind of recalls or jobs that are outstanding. You can see that I still haven't done You can see that I still haven't done my limited service campaign, but I'll be doing that very soon. If you're affected, you know that you'll have to pay a visit probably sometime in December or in the new year to get this software update fixed. Let me know in the comments below. Are you impacted by this recall? And for other NX owners, how many recalls or limited service campaigns have you had? Once I get more information on the root cause and all this, there will be another video on this recall. Stay safe, check your VIN, and I'll see you in the next video. I hope that you found that this video was informative. And until next video, drive safely. Thank you for watching. If you like this video, please comment, like, share this video. A major safety recall (RL2 / XL2) has been issued for over 1 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles in North America, including my own 2022 Lexus NX. This is the 4th recall and 3rd LSC, totaling 7 dealer trips for my car alone. The recall addresses a serious issue where the backup camera image may freeze or fail to display, increasing the risk of a crash. In this video, I cover everything you need to know: - What is the exact problem? - The full list of 2022-2025 models affected (Lexus NX, RX, TX, Toyota RAV4, Highlander, etc.) - Why this requires another dealer visit, unlike Tesla, Ford, or Polestar. - My personal thoughts as an owner and software developer on Over-the-Air (OTA) updates vs. dealer service.
