So how can I maintain a prayer, a praise to God that is stable, balanced, that does not depend on the situation I am in ? Because if there is one key to following God, it is perseverance. And perseverance is maintaining the rhythm of praise, of prayer, of seeking God regardless of the situation I am experiencing. But when the situation is adverse and keeping up the pace becomes difficult, I would like to offer you some advice. Can I propose it to you? Yes. They're not sleeping here and they're thinking about the World Cup. Can I propose it to you ? Yes. What do I do if I'm going through a difficult time? What do I do in a difficult moment? We need to disconnect faith from feeling. Faith is not a feeling, because feelings are usually caused by situations, by the environment, by the moment I am living. If I have a nice time, I feel good. If I go through a difficult time, I feel bad. So, I have to take faith out of that framework and say, "My faith, my prayer, my praise to God doesn't depend on the feelings generated by the situation I'm experiencing, but rather on the word of Jesus. That word that doesn't change, that promise that is like a check that Jesus Christ signed with blood ink from the cross of Calvary, and that has his name written on it, and he took that check, sent it to you, and that check says, 'Healed, blessed, free, prosperous, happy.'" Amen. And to receive it, the only thing that is in our hands or that is the counterpart of the word of God is to maintain perseverance. When you get up in the morning, put both feet under the bed; you should be aware starting tomorrow. My faith does not depend on the situation I am experiencing, on how much I have in my pockets, or on where I am. It doesn't depend on feelings. My faith depends on that promise that God has made to me, and that promise will manifest itself in his life, no matter what . That is not in doubt. These lepers, because of their disease, were excluded from the surrounding society. The moment you were diagnosed with leprosy, you had to leave your home, your family, your job, and what you considered life. And you were semi-enclosed in a small, abandoned piece of land where you were alive, but nevertheless, you weren't living. Let me explain. Why was the leper alive? They are alive, they get up every morning, they see the sun, they move around, they talk, but they feel they aren't living, they do n't feel useful, they don't feel they are moving forward, because certain events in their lives have caused them to stagnate. You see how the months What's happening? The people around them are moving forward, progressing, growing, and they're still exactly in the same place. It's as if miracles and blessings are for everyone else, except them. It seems as if someone, perhaps a bit shadowy, came from who knows where and placed a shell over them. And from that day on, blessings are untouchable. Everything they do goes wrong, and it gets to the point where they've chosen to remain completely still because even trying again feels like a burden. While there are countless situations we could categorize as leprosy today, due to time constraints, I'd like to mention only two that I think fit very well, those we 've met with today and those who are joining us through social media. We suffer, we are paralyzed and burdened by a leprosy. The first is disillusionment. I believe that disillusionment is one of life's episodes that hits faith the hardest. Let me explain why. Let's think for a few seconds about a person undergoing medical treatment, carrying it out with great dedication. Hope. You follow the doctor's instructions to the letter, and as the treatment progresses, you begin to feel better. You draw closer to God, pray, and experience how your spirits lift. You feel that as your spirits rise, you are not only drawing closer to God but also to the answer you seek in prayer. You feel you are just one step away from what you truly need. But then, just when you think you are so close, that you are about to achieve it, that you are experiencing a wonderful time of faith, revival, and high spirits, the diagnosis arrives. You are still sick, or you, ma'am , who so enthusiastically underwent treatment to become pregnant, receive another negative result. Or you, sir, who had submitted your resume to multiple places looking for a job and thought the doors were about to open and all that remained was to sign a contract, receive an email, a message, and they say, "Thank you for applying, we have chosen someone else." You, who had soared in spirit, in faith, in your closeness to God, and who believed you were just one step away from receiving the answer you needed, bam, you're out. It falls. Disillusionment is that negative voice that whispers in your ear and constantly tells you, "It's not worth trying again." And that voice grows stronger when you're down and out, lacking the will to keep believing, because you're afraid to believe again, to get excited, to feel hopeful, to feel like you're one step away from what you need, only to crash to the ground again. Disillusionment is a situation, or a leprosy, as you prefer, that deeply wounds faith and freezes the lives of many people. They are extraordinary people, big- hearted, brave, and hardworking, but things simply haven't gone their way . So, they choose to remain static, still, and undertake absolutely nothing, not because they are pessimistic, but because they no longer want to feel the pain of disillusionment again. The second leprosy is fear. Fear is that recurring thought that guides my heart, my mood, and my life itself toward the worst. I'm afraid of getting sick, I'm afraid of losing my job, I'm afraid my partner will leave me, I'm afraid of having an accident, and Because I have so many fears and expect the worst from this life, I prefer to stagnate, to stop, and even though I breathe, I get up, I have a pulse and a temperature, I'm no longer truly living. Because fulfilling a purpose or a mission given by God demands a certain degree of risk that undoubtedly frightens you. But what kind of fear can I overcome through faith? Because faith is the complete opposite of fear. If fear always expects the worst, faith always expects the best. And for these two afflictions, or situations that so often keep us stuck, there is a solution. Jesus Christ the Lord, who, just as He approached these lepers and was able to reach where no one else could, approaches you and me in a subtle yet profound way, because on the path of life, He has given you messages, spoken to you through people, reminded you that life goes on, that it's worthwhile to get going and continue. If today you feel stuck, sick with that inner leprosy, with disillusionment or fear, Tell him, "Lord, here is my heart. When the person, due to various circumstances, began to experience relief, that the leprosy was healing, that they were improving, and they saw that they were able to return home, they would present themselves to the priest. The priest would examine them, and if he found them cured of leprosy, he would allow them to return to their daily life . So this group of lepers was aware of this. The one who gave the diagnosis was the priest, and the one who certified that they were cured was also the priest. So, upon hearing this instruction from Jesus, they might have wondered, "Why should I go and find the priest if the skin..." Does it still hurt? Am I still sick, leprous, smelly, stagnant, isolated from the world? I have not a single reason to think my skin has improved. Why would I go? Is Jesus making fun of me? Because Jesus' instructions, my dear friends and brothers, are not directed to our mind, to our reasoning, but to our heart. And Jesus has been giving you an instruction for a long time. There is something that Jesus is asking of you; he invites you to distance yourself from certain people, from certain places, from habits that harm you. Jesus is speaking to you, giving you an instruction, and you reflect and say, "Why should I stop doing this if it's my freedom, my time, my money, my life? Why should I turn away from what seems to harm me, but deep down I believe it gives me a certain pleasure?" And you enter into that conflict because you process the instruction Jesus has given you in your mind, but it's not through your mind; it's through your heart. If the lepers, upon hearing Jesus' instruction, had said, "Jesus is mocking me..." "I have no reason to look for the priest; I'd rather go somewhere else." They weren't healed. But they responded to the instruction with obedience. Obedience is that willingness to do what Jesus is asking of you, without overthinking it, because whoever hears a message from God, who is certain that He is asking them to reshape their lifestyle, and upon hearing that instruction sits down to calculate—what will I gain, what will I lose, what am I risking?—that kind of thinking will stop you. That voice will tell you, "Do nothing." Don't put yourself at risk. Just put Jesus there at the back of the house in the dusty Bible and look for him occasionally at Mass when someone gets married or baptized. Well, don't get involved in that. The moment you sit down to do the calculations, you don't take the leap of faith. Because obedience is the available response to an instruction from God. Obedience is always a step of faith because it cannot be filtered through the mind; it is accepted with the heart and put into practice. And the wonder of obedience is that it becomes the first step on the path to healing. These lepers received Jesus' instruction, filtered it through their hearts, and set out on their journey, even though their bodies ached, even though they had no reason to believe they were healed, they acted as if they were. And acting as if I already have what I'm asking for is faith. Thus, the lepers' obedience was a step of faith that brought them healing. If healing is a path of three, four, five, or six steps, the first step to healing is usually to obey the instruction that Jesus gave you long ago. What has Jesus asked you to start doing that you haven't done yet? What has Jesus asked you to stop doing that you haven't done until now? Why not give it a try? Does n't he do that much calculation? And if you take the leap of faith, you will see how that obedience gradually leads you to the healing you need. Because the obedience that Jesus expects from us is not a dictatorial obedience. What does this mean? Jesus gains nothing from his obedience and mine. He is still good, he is still God. He still loves us exactly the same. The one who wins through obedience is the one who benefits. Because the instruction that Jesus gives us is to heal, to grow, to live better, to progress and advance on this path where we feel that we are static, stopped, frozen in time by the various leprosies that the world offers. And I believe, I say this with all the affection and respect that you deserve. The only illness or evil that Jesus cannot heal is the one I continue to feed. I can repeat it. You receive instruction from Jesus and put it into practice step by step, and you will see that as time goes by, you get closer to the fulfillment of the promise that God has made to you.
