Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you, my dear students. Today, we are pleased to present to you the chapter on the Contemporary Omani Renaissance within the course "Oman: State and People." We will now discuss the chapters of the course. First, we will talk about the vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may God rest his soul. The victorious Omani state drew its inspiration from the vision of His Majesty, may God rest his soul, both domestically and internationally. Domestically, he, may God rest his soul, focused on the state and the Omani people, and his ideas were reflected in every field of the blessed renaissance: economic, social, political, and cultural. Many achievements were realized, leading the world to acknowledge these accomplishments. Internationally, his vision, may God rest his soul, was also reflected on the regional and global stages, leading the world to commend the significant role played by the Sultanate. He, may God rest his soul, undertook the process of change, as he understood that change is the foundation of progress and that attention to the individual is the basis of development. His Majesty promised the Omani citizen, in his first In a meeting with the people in 1970, he promised them the building of a modern state founded on human beings, for he, may God have mercy on him, understood that people are the basis of development. His Majesty also cared deeply about the values of Omani society, its cultural heritage, customs, and traditions. Education received great attention from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, may God have mercy on him, as he directed those concerned and responsible to spread education throughout the various regions and governorates of the Sultanate, based on the principle of justice at all levels and stages. Secondly, regarding developmental initiatives, he said, "O people, I will work as quickly as possible to make you live happily with a better future." In this context, we will discuss the focus on the Omani people and the Omani economy. Firstly, the focus on the Omani people: As you heard in the royal address in which His Majesty outlined the roadmap for building the modern Omani renaissance, he promised them, may God have mercy on him, in his first address in 1970, that he would work as quickly as possible to make them live happily. Of course, this speech was fulfilled, and Oman became one of the ranks of developed nations, as he focused on His Majesty, may God have mercy on him, directed the government to establish a large number of schools covering all educational levels in the various governorates and states of the Sultanate, in addition to eradicating illiteracy. As you know, illiteracy was widespread among citizens in Omani society. Therefore, the late His Majesty directed the government to establish a large number of schools covering all educational levels in the various governorates and states of the Sultanate. Thus, the first Ministry of Education was established in 1970, known as the Ministry of Knowledge. This ministry has since evolved into the Ministry of Education and Training, which oversees the educational process in the country and plays a role in developing education to meet the needs of society. Another ministry, the Ministry of Higher Education, was also established to focus on youth and provide them with higher education. Furthermore, the government focused on providing healthcare for citizens, in addition to social welfare and attention to cultural and sporting activities. There was also great attention given to Omani women by His Majesty, may God have mercy on him. Secondly, attention was given to the Omani economy. The wise government, under the leadership of the late His Majesty, may God have mercy on him, paid great attention to the Omani economy, as the Basic Law of the State affirms that the Omani economy It is a free economy based on justice and founded on constructive and fruitful cooperation between the public and private sectors. Therefore, a specialized ministry was established to oversee the national economy, known as the Ministry of National Economy. The philosophy of the Omani economy is based on diversifying sources of income. As you know, the Omani economy in the 1980s and 1990s was entirely dependent on oil. However, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, may God rest his soul, directed the government to find other alternatives because oil is a depleting resource. Oman Vision 2040 focuses on the optimal utilization of all vital sectors in the Sultanate, especially the ports, airports, logistics, tourism, and industrial zones sectors. The government, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, may God rest his soul, has given great attention to Omani heritage and culture, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage. This includes the establishment of numerous cultural institutions dedicated to preserving Omani heritage, such as the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, which oversees the Sultan Qaboos Chairs and the Sultan Qaboos Prize for Literature. The arts include preserving and restoring historical landmarks, old quarters, and archaeological sites, and registering some of them on UNESCO's World Heritage List. In addition, there is a focus on cultural exhibitions and festivals that consistently promote customs and traditions. Domestically, His Majesty's (may God rest his soul) tours represent a rich Omani innovation in the field of citizen political participation. He (may God have mercy on him) visited all the governorates and states of the Sultanate, sitting on the ground to listen to citizens and their needs, then instructing government officials to address them. Externally, the Sultanate has adopted an approach based on consolidating the values of peace, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and forgiveness among brothers, and non- interference in the affairs of others. The Sultanate fundamentally rejects interference in its own affairs, as Oman is a sovereign state that refuses to allow meddling in its internal matters. The Sultanate deals with external events with credibility and without exaggeration. Its approach is balanced; it does not base its decisions on those of others but rather relies on a balanced approach in making its own decisions. As mentioned, it works to promote tolerance and security. Therefore, His Majesty received His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, may God rest his soul, was awarded the International Peace Prize in 1998 in recognition of the Sultanate's efforts in promoting peace and peaceful coexistence among nations. The Omani media was not far from his mind, as he directed those concerned and responsible in the state to develop a media strategy characterized by clear objectives and the principles he had established since the beginning of the blessed Renaissance. The Omani media has strived to achieve several strategic goals, including promoting national unity and citizenship, and strengthening loyalty and belonging to the beloved leader and the nation. The media policy is also based on several pillars, including the principles of the tolerant Islamic faith, the Basic Law of the State, His Majesty's vision, and the values and customs of society. Furthermore, the media discourse is based on principles that govern its performance of its mission both domestically and internationally. Thus, we have presented some features of the contemporary Omani Renaissance, as we cannot possibly present all the achievements of His Majesty, may God rest his soul, during his 50 years in power. Last year, but these are the most prominent achievements. As we mentioned, His Majesty cared about the Omani people, and indeed, these achievements have been realized on the ground. Here we find Omanis, both men and women, working hand in hand to serve this nation.
