Dear students, we have previously discussed the dangers of the multiple and diverse affiliations witnessed in the 20th century, which affected many human societies across various ethnic, religious, political, and civic lines. We have seen and heard about the many problems arising from these affiliations and the destruction and devastation they have wrought. However, the distinguished Omani experience, championed by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, may God have mercy on him and forgive him, followed a different path, one that transcended narrow and limited affiliations, and those that serve personal interests. He, may God have mercy on him, adopted a different approach in building an experience of belonging based on national identity. Within this national identity, everyone grows with their diverse talents, backgrounds, and beliefs, becoming brothers in this nation, loving and cooperating with one another. Among the benefits of national identity—and we note here the word "of" here indicating partiality—is the establishment of a national state based on national identity. This state, by the grace of God Almighty, has been able to unify All segments and components of society, regardless of their affiliations, are united under the banner of the nation. Secondly, as a result of the sincere national belonging championed by His Majesty the late Sultan, may God have mercy on him, this society was unified. He was able to provide it with education and training that suited its needs, enabling the Omani people to thrive within the embrace of this nation, free from all narrow affiliations. Among the fruits of national belonging and belonging to this dear, generous, and precious country is that the Omani people have been able to overcome the regional, social, and geographical isolation they suffered before the 1970s.
